I posted about purchasing a new henry carbine in 45 colt.
Got to the range yesterday, my excitement quickly slipped away when it was shooting 12" high at 25 yards. The rear sight adjustment is maxed out.
I am shooting reloads, 200 grain powder coated over 6 grains of red dot. It is a accurate load in my other 45's.

Before I call Henry, I thought I would ask the community here if anyone had a similar experience with a henry rifle.

thanks

You said you maxed out your rear sight. We are assuming you have it all the way lowered and I say this with no disrespect, but I have seen this problem too many times before. Assuming the sight is all the way down you will need a taller front sight.

I'm not interested in buying parts for a brand new 1000 dollar rifle. If it comes to sight replacement I will send it back to Henry.
I was just hoping someone here had a similar problem and had an easy fix.

thanks

Try running it with 8 grains of unique if you have some on hand. I find my sw 25 loves it.

I may try a different load and see what happens, I'm not sure if i can make up the 12" at 25 issue but its worth a try.

A couple here recomended new sight (i was hesitant at first) so I started searching and found a skinner peep sight. They look pretty nice and I always prefer a peep sight. This may be my course of action after I speak to henry.

I've read of problems with Skinner sights on Henrys shooting high before. I bought a Henry .22LR with Skinner sights and had the same problem. I called Henry and they sent me a front sight for a .22 magnum and it solved the problem.

Levers and peeps go together like PB&J, I get not wanting to "fix" a new gun but for $12 I get to double check the math and get it right without having to deal with shipping and being without my gun.

If I properly recall the pic posted, he's got the Henry buckhorn sight. Did I miss him changing out the sight?

My Henry Classic Lever .22 mag w/ Skinner peep shoots dead to POA at 100 yds. Maybe about an inch high at 50 yds. Don't have my trajectory table handy, but if memory serves that's about right for zeroed at 100 yds.

I agree. For that kind of money, Henry could've at least shot the rifle and observed the results. Maybe listening for a bang passes for quality control these days.

Send it back.

Henry probably thinks if you buy a rifle you are going to use it at rifle distances not handgun distances. Try putting the target farther out.

I don't like buckhorn sights so put a Ranger Point Precision peep sight on my Henry 45 carbine. It works just fine with the factory front sight but I wasn't having issues with the buckhorn. IMG_4893.jpg 8.5gr of Unique under an Acme 250gr RNFP has been a very accurate load out to 100yds.

My Henry single shot. 357 had the same problem with low velocity heavy bullets. Full power. 357 was right on at factory setting. I enquired about simply receiving a taller front sight and they wanted me to send in the rifle! I mentioned that I may just put optics on it and they offered me a free scope mount so I just went that route and called it good. Not a fan of their iron sight platform. Not enough range of adjustment for LV cast through full power jacketed.

So, your suggesting I adjust the distances I'm shooting vs. adjusting the sight ?

Correct, it has the stock buckhorn. I am considering getting a peep.

If you send Henry a polite & professional email with your concerns, you will probably be pleased with the support.

I bought an H010X (45/70 Gov)

The Suppressor I am running is getting too far into the front sight.

I emailed them & asked if they had a taller front sight. I didn't see one on their page.

They did have one.
I asked what I needed to do to purchase it.

They sent it at no charge and I had it in a couple of days.

If time allows today, I plan on swapping it out.

I don't think it's really quite fair to Henry to blame them without knowing what distance the sights are zeroed for and what the bullet weight and cartridge load they used was (note the OP stated using hand loads), and furthermore out of a barrel that's not broken in.

I have a Henry 45colt steel. I use 200grn rnfp cast bullets and titegroup. I found it to be accurate from 25yrds out to 75 yards. I found a lighter load actually increased accuracy. I have not tried out to 100 yrds yet.
