Henry rifle shooting high..out of sight adjustment

I have an observation to share from my range outing today. Walmart had the federal 22 auto match ammo in. The box is different than the black and white boxes. I took a box of the new and a old box along. At 100 yards with new stuff. I had to use the second BDC dot down to hit clays. The older stuff the 1st dot down. You could also hear the difference in report too. New stuff was lower charges. So a different load may indeed help with your rifle.

I had the same issue with a Henry H001 in 22. It wasn’t as bad though. It shoots 4” high at 50 yards, but will not go low enough to get a matched POI and POA at 50. The front sight is not dovetailed so I can’t just replace it. I emailed Henry and they sent a new front band with a taller front sight. I have not tried it yet but hope to this week. The factory sights have fairly coarse adjustment increments, so if I can get it within an inch or so that will be good for my uses.

Are you using the standard buck-horn sights? There are two ways to adjust elevation on these, one is with the sliding steps, which allow for incremental adjustments of elevation... The other is by loosening the small screw on the sight, and sliding the notched leaf up or down, then tightening up the screw again to keep it in place. Reference the attached picture where I point to both:

When I zeroed in my Henry 30-30, I had the sight on the lowest step position, and zeroed it by moving the leaf to the correct height. This way, if I'm shooting long range, I still have all my elevation adjustments on the steps.

I had to get the front sight replaced on my Henry 45 70 & they took the blame with class.
They mailed me the new one & I assured them I could do it myself of course, no problem & easy.
Now this was about 8 years ago, seems like tone has changed with some mfg per buyouts &
recalls & political pressures going on but Henry has always been a helpful group.
I dread warning anyone like a know it all, but always make your first 50 rounds thru a new firearm
factory ammo, just in case it SNAPS-CRACKLES-OR POPS, then you can rest assured
it wasn't the reloads. In this case the loads wont be the problem but, I am just saying.

I may try a different load and see what happens, I'm not sure if i can make up the 12" at 25 issue but its worth a try.

A couple here recomended new sight (i was hesitant at first) so I started searching and found a skinner peep sight. They look pretty nice and I always prefer a peep sight. This may be my course of action after I speak to henry.
I, had a skinner sight on my Henry, did not like it. Went to a tang sight, love it. Before you spend money on a skinner, try a tang sight.

I bought used a Rossi Puma made for Legacy Sports, copy of Winchester 1892 in
357. The step elevator had range of adjustment suitable for .38 Spl at most ranges but not for .357 at 100 yds. I replaced the step elevator.

I suspected the rifle had been set up for CAS with .38 Spl, maybe by the distributor or maybe by the previous owner.
