Herco in 9mm?

About 35yrs ago, gun writer Mike Ventenrino wrote an article on cast bullets in a 9mm.
He came to the conclusion that under the Lee 125gr RN that Herco was th3 best powder.
Today it has a close analog in LongShot.
Both are superlative in the 9mm.

Metering it from Lee PPM. When last used, little plastic PPM was dropping the very fine AA#7, so crank handle was snugged down tight. Would still get a bit of the #7 powder leaking past the drum. With the Herco, I eased off on the drum tension so that handle moved easy. Now and then it would stiffen up......maybe a single flake got caught, but with next charge, that went away. No leaks and very easy to use.

While some seem to think Herco is a large flake powder that does not meter well, that was not the case for me. Once set to drop a charge, drops from PPM remained accurate, charge after charge. As good as I could do trickling up. Flakes no larger than Red Dot, Green Dot or Unique, so flake size not an issue for me. Flake size also meaning it would be nearly impossible to double charge a case. BTW, measured a full case not even scribed off and it was only 8.3 grains. Perhaps guys shooting hot major loads can't pack enough powder in to do what they want......and maybe that is an objection for some...... but that doesn't apply to me.

So far have found nothing not to like. Just need to see what happens when they go BANG.

I've shot Herco in 9mm (as well as many other calibers from 32acp thru the .44s)
for over 30 years. 6.4 grs. with Hornaday's 124 gr. FMJ.
My favorite powder in both the .380 and the 9.

The Hercules powder company liked it so much they named it after their company
(you know, way back when companies took pride in their products!), so that's
gotta say something about Herco.
