o.k.......do I buy a used Sig 226 (factory certified LNIB) for around 500.00, or a 5" Loaded Springfield 1911 for around 700.00? (general use, competition, range, probably not CCW)

Let It Begin.

Never got into 1911's, and the Sig 226 is starting sing its siren song to me, so I've gotta give props to the Sig. Are 226 Navy's still available here in the Bay Area?

You can be certain the Sig will work but you can't be sure about the SA 1911 untill you personaly test it.

If the SA 1911 does work out of the box but it will not for long untill you replace their junk extractor with a good spring steel part.

funny you should say that... the 1911 is doing the same to me. I know the problems but from what I understand, once you work through them you have a mighty find weapon in your hands there.

Long Term View...

We are thinking about this the wrong way...The question should be which do I buy first. :D

I would recommend the Sig. I own a 1911 (and love it), but I am lusting after a 9mm Sig. I would buy the Sig first, as a 1911 could end up being a bit of a project, where the Sig should TCB straight out of the box.
