My reply from Sen. Jacobs (Mooney also sent a nice letter):

Thank you for taking the time to register your opinion with me. I am strongly opposed to this bill, as it is a violation of the rights of law abiding citizens. This bill is being heard before my committee, Judicial Proceedings, on Tuesday February 10. I will certainly be actively working to ensure that this bill fails.
BTW, I am on MPT tomorrow night at 7:30 PM and Sunday at 10:30 AM debating this very bill with my good, liberal friend Senator Grosfeld. Be sure to let me know how I do if you tune in!
Thanks for your support,
Nancy

I'm going to try and juggle some things here at school tomorrow so that I can be (cough, cough) "sick" on Tuesday. I have to see if I get someone to do a few things for me......more tomorrow night.

For the record, I received responses from both Senator Jimeno and Senator Jacobs. Senator Jimeno's response was thank you for the imput. Seantor Jacobs was the same one that Mike got.

"ASSAULT WEAPON" MEANS: AN ASSAULT LONG GUN; AN ASSAULT PISTOL; OR A COPYCAT WEAPON.

Thanks anapex ......the cable company I'm with is Millennium, but I'm sure I can find the right channel.:)

Be sure that you call each and every one of these folks, but especially Haines.

I will be calling his office tomorrow.

He's from Westminster, for crying out loud, not Baltimore City or PG/Montgomery County.

How could he be for this nonsense?

Hopefully that "no position" will change.

Anybody know how to call G Gordon Liddy?

I'd love to hear him talk about this on the radio. I know he's on 680 am here in the Baltimore area......

I did a search on Liddy's page for "SB288" and found nothing, so I emailed the show and gave a very brief description of the bill, asked them to research it, and at least mention it on the show.

Perfect subject matter, but I doubt we'll actually hear anything.

PM me with your email addy and I'll forward you some emails that have tons of information.

Also, run a search here at THR for "Maryland AssualT' or something similar and follow the threads; there's lots of links to info pages, .gov's, and other gun rights groups.

Bring the kids if you can. What better picture for home defense than a pro gun mom?

do ya think they will like these in Annapolis?

Since I don't have the leave for Tuesday the wife is thinking about going down. With two energetic boys though she might be able to only hold a protest sign or two. Kinda hard to testify with little kids climbin' all over ya.

Spot77: Thanks for e-mailing me the info.

I still have some questions that I didn't see answered on any of the forums.

*Where are we supposed to go when we get there? I understand most people will be going in to claim a seat but since I can't bring my two wild boys in there, where should I go? I don't want to just stand there and look pretty. ;)

*Should I have a sign or something? How do I let people know which side I stand on? If I should have a sign, any ideas on what it should say?

*Parking? I have no idea yet where it is but I figured I'll mapquest some directions. But where to park?

*How will I know if I see any of you? :p I will be the young (?) mom with two little boys with green and blue coats. Let me know who you are if you see me.

That's about it for now. I may run some sign ideas by you later if we are supposed to have them.

Stick it to 'em, Mr. Striffler......from the Sunday Capital:

Gun legislation
I am a law-abiding, God-fearing citizen of the great state of Maryland. However, each day I fear its government even more.
The Associated Press article headlined "State bills back ban on assault weapons" (The Capital, Dec. 1) reported that, due to a fear that the federal assault weapons ban will expire this year, Del. Neil Quinter, D-Howard, and state Sen. Rob Garagiola, D-Montgomery, plan to introduce bills to ban weapons they say serve no legitimate purpose.
President Clinton's 1994 ban on semiautomatic rifles, which outlawed selected rifles because they looked dangerous, had no effect on crime and is a violation of the Constitution.
Mr. Garagiola showed how the Consititution is ignored by our anti-gun legislators' agenda by stating, "Nobody's going to talk about taking away hunting rifles. We're not trying to infringe on the Second Amendment."
We are a great democracy because we allow ourselves to be governed. Nowhere in the Second Amendment does it say that the right of the individual to own hunting rifles shall not be infringed.
The Second Amendment's guarantee of the individual's right to bear arms actually comprises the teeth of the Constitution. It is what enables us to enforce the provisions of the Constitution against an out-of-control government.
The Declaration of Independence states that "Governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government."
Is our Maryland legislature fearful of law-abiding citizens?

why not take the little darlings to the anti guners training session?

Alex X. Mooney (410) 841-3575, (301) 858-3575

It looks like Mr. Haines is the one we need to lean on......

Wish us luck tomorrow....:fire:

YES!!!!!:D :D :D :D

I just got off the phone with Senator Haines' office, and the wonderful lady on the phone assured me that the Senator will vote AGAINST SB288!!!

This is powerful news as it seems to tip things in our favor a little.

KEEP CALLING!:fire: :fire:

Now is the time to stay ON FIRE!:fire:

I'm going!!!

I was able to get some time off, and will be driving over from the Brookeville area. Wasn't someone here asking for a ride from Olney?

On a related note: I was at Gilberts' Range on Sunday near closing and the staff there had JUST FOUND OUT about the bill - from an LEO who told them that the bill would ban all semi-auto firearms, period. I set them straight and then spent a good 30 min jabbing my jaw at everyone coming in the door before closing time. Not one person I spoke to had heard of SB288. I encouraged everyone to call their state senators and oppose this thing. I don't know if it did any good.

K-R....That's great that you can be there!

And that sucks that so many people still haven't heard of this nightmare!

Senators Green, Hughes, and Mooney look like the most undecided right now. According to Senator Mooney's aide, he is, "Very Pro Second Amendment, but I'm not at liberty to discuss the Senator's opinion on this bill"......whatever that means.....sounds kind of spineless to me.

Don't know about all that

Wasn't Mooney the guy with the "sport utility rifle" slogan? He was the only one to send me a letter after my call, encouraging me to show up and testify against the bill. And I live about 50 miles from his district!!

Meanwhile, Kramer (my sorry excuse for a State Sen) is a co-sponsor, even after I sent her a letter weeks ago clearly explaining why an "AWB" is a bogus idea. No letter from her office.

I guess some people just don't understand that for many of us, we're one issue voters......or at least their 2A stance is a major influence in our voting decisions.

I hadn't heard that about Senator Mooney....but that's great news.

I need a bumper sticker: "Have Guns. Will Vote"

Spot - Mooney is da man! There is NO ONE more pro-gun in the MD legislature. Can't discuss his opinion probably means that they can't use that kind of language talking to a citizen. Sort of like THR.

K-R - Check your mail.
