My friends' dad who tried to sell me his Taurus 92 and Ruger Mini-30, came by today with his Winchester 94E and asked if I wanted it for $250(along with sixty rounds of Winchester Ammo to be included in the price). I know it's a money thing and he won't take a loan (I tried and got real pissed off about it). He has the Winchester 94 model with the 20" barrel and this one he's selling has the 16" barrel. It's in pristine shape (bore, receiver, wood). Should I take it, it's 30/30 and even with 16" barrel I could still use it for hunting which I plan to get into come summer time. And at $250 with sixty rounds of factory Winchester that's hard to beat I think. Are there some boogeyman issues I don't know about and will regret if I buy this?

Oh and the gunshop offered him only $150.

Why don't you buy it and put some money in his pocket, and sell it back to him later? That way you could help him out in the short term and he could get his rifle back when he is back on his feet. ;)

handgunner has a good idea their. id buy it for that price in a second

Man, that's a helluva deal! And a good idea to "hold" it for him to boot! A win-win situation. They don't make Winnies anymore, their value is only going up.

Don't tell him the idea up front, but after the transaction just mention, "ya know, if you ever wanna buy this back, just let me know...". That will allow him to save face and his pride.

And that gun shop should be avoided if that's how they treat people. JMHO.
