Good day fellow rifle shooters. I thought I’d share a new project I’ve taken on out of Covid lockdown boredom. It includes a Hi-Point carbine in 10MM and a HTA bullpup stock.

So a bit of background. I’m a 10MM fan and have several years experience shooting and reloading this caliber from various firearms. G20, Rock Island 1911, Springfield XDM, EAA Witness and S&W 1006 were the platforms I’ve utilized for 10MM play. I’ve always wanted an MP10 but would never be able to afford one so I’ve been planning on building an AR SBR in 10MM. Seems like most of the 10MM pieces parts to put one together are hard to get right now. Even considered a Kriss Vector 10MM but decided to tinker with the Hi-Point at a lower cost alternative for now.

Well a local guy had a used on for sale for $400 and I procrastinated making an offer and it sold before I decided to jump in. So I won an auction on Gunbroker for a new one. While waiting on it to arrive I ordered 2 extra mags and an HTA bullpup stock (https://www.hightowerarmory.com/High-Tower-Armory-MBS-95-10mm-Auto_p_46.html).

Stock, rifle and magazines arrived in short order so I disassembled, cleaned, inspected and removed the action from the Hi-Point factory stock and inserted into the HTA offering. Installation was a breeze and I added flip up sights and a Sig Saur Romeo MSR red dot to the build. Here’s the rifle as it sits before the red dot delivered.

Here’s the red dot installed.

I took it to the indoor range today since outdoor wasn’t an option due to snow and cold temps. Broke it in with some 180 grain FMJ over Blue Dot and sighted in the red dot at 20 yards. Also took 200gr Hornady XTP loads with AA9 and Longshot to see how they’d group. Finally I had my standard 180gr Hornady XTP with 800X (center bull) which is my favorite 10MM loads to date. Below is the results. Each were 5 round volleys.

The end result is that I had a couple of FTF with the lighter AA9 loads but everything else fed fine. The Longshot 8.1 gr loads showed some primer flattening and the 800X load shot like a dream. Recoil was hardly felt. The trigger definitely takes some getting used to but overall I’m happy with the build. Looking forward to taking it to the local outdoor range and shooting out to 100yards and ringing some gongs.

Thanks for letting me share this experience. Not a fan of Hi-Point pistols but this carbine has promise.

Nice shooting and a good looking rig. Any chance you can shoot it over a chronograph? I'd love a 10 mm Auto carbine.

Very nice set up! I have been a fan of the 10mm for a while. The HP carbine is still an amazing amount of gun for the cost. Many love to shame them but I have seen many videos of people trying to get one to fail by abusing it and finding they can't get it to fail. The after market following shows these do sell well. Looks like a hell of a fun set up!

My son has the Hi Point 10mm carbine and I've been trying to talk him into getting the HTA bullpup kit. I love the looks. Thanks for the write up! I just wish there was something that could be done to improve the trigger.

Lennyjoe, looks like you done good there.

I have kicked around about getting the 10mm Hi-point. I already have the 9, 40, & 45.
The 9 sports the HTA stock in OD green. It had the original fugly stock. Looks muck better now. :)

I also have a Hi-Point 995TS in a High-Tower chassis, except mine's 9mm. It's a fun shooter and shoots well, though the trigger is crap. My only regret is that I wish I'd gone the 10 mm route.

Another question; did HTA develop their own magazine for it? Back when I was interested in this setup they were talking about a proprietary double stack for the stock.

Ahhh yes, forgot about the Redball boomerang.

I'm asking so much because I was interested in putting one of these together at one time. HTA was going to make an insert for popular double stacks or make their own. Was always looking forward to that. Then Covid hit and I only just now bought a new firearm in a little less than a year and a half. Does the Redball hang down real low and get in the way of handling?

The 2 downsides to the build is the 10 round magazine and the inability to extend to more rounds in the 10MM, and the trigger. Im spoiled with great triggers in AR's and this one is far from it. Not sure if there are any enhancements out there so I'll shop around.

Hi-Points remind me a lot of AKs. They are not particularly elegant, but they seem to just work. I think there's also a lot of snobbery involved -- the Hi-Point is not a high-end gun but so what? If anything, I think it's pretty damn commendable that there's a company out there making inexpensive firearms that virtually anyone can afford. Moreover, I think Hi-Point's carbines are actually quite reliable, and I actually like how they look.

So you're a fan of The Planet Of The Apes as well? My buddy had a 9mm. Sold it without giving me a heads up. They are fun little shooters.

:D Many people when I say that now days have no idea what I am talking about having not seen that original version of that movie.
When these little rifles first hit the market they were selling for around $150 and did look a lot like those rifles in that early version of that famous movie. I thought at that price they had to be junk. Was quite shocked when a couple people bought one and they just worked. Almost bought one a couple times just because they were so damn cheap and worked. Did not take long for the after market to come up with stuff for them due to sales. From what I keep reading to the Co still stands behind what they sell. If it breaks they just replace it. People can laugh at and deride them all they want. As mentioned they are at a price point almost anyone can afford and they just work.

Zamak attack! I've looked at the carbine a time or two, I'm wishing I had bought one when they were $175. They are going for $350-$450 around here nowadays. I think the only thing that stopped me was the non compatibility with glock mags. How do they hold up to higher round count? Is she toast and worn out after a few thousand rounds or will it take some heat?
