I do not own one, If I were on a budget and had $150 to spend I would get a shotgun.
That is me, buck for buck you get a weapon you can use for multiple purposes.
I can not imagine anyone carrying a a weapon the size and weight of the Hi Point.
It sure would make a 1911 feel like a featherweight.
i am glad some folks are happy with them and wish them well. We all need to start somewhere.
I started with a 6 inch Iver Johnson which I had to remove the cylinder to reload.
Just a bit faster than an 1858 Colt.
I did carry a high Standard Griswold and Gunnison when I was 19 and too young to buy a center fire. After all it was good enough for Wild Bill.
Slid down in my right boot with the barrel riding on the inside of the sole, it carried well while on my 1974 500 Kawasaki. I was glad to get a 28 S&W 4 inch after that.

Own a .40 Hi Point, its big and heavy but shoots as good as I do. Never a problem with the UMC ammo its been fed. Stays loaded in desk drawer. I have 100% confidence it will go bang when I want it to. It is a beast to try to carry though, mainly due to thickness. I don't care about its looks, its a big black semi-auto. To be fair though I'm not a huge cosmetics person. The customer service is so good I've never had to use it, meaning they did it right before it left their factory. I have just over 300 rounds through mine.

JQP, I have voiced that opinion on THR a lot. There are many on here, who for many reasons think that gun rights and ownership should be limited to those with enough money to purchase certain guns.

I think it should be your right to shoot heroin if that's what you want to do.

I'm never going to tell you it's a GOOD idea.

Likewise, if you want to trust your life to a Hi Point, that's your right.

I'm never going to tell you that it's a GOOD idea.

You have a right to make certain choices.

I have a right not to endorse them.

Just to be clear... Are you are saying that if someone cannot afford anything better than a Hi-Point you would not endorse them owning a gun?
I would not endorse them owning a gun which I would not trust.

If you can't live your life without my endorsement, you don't HAVE a life.

I could give two squirts about your endorsement to be honest with you.

Everygun is a POS to someone. I would rather end up with a $150 POS then a $750 POS.

Hi Point 9MM

I purchased the Hi Point 9mm CPT/+P about 2 weeks ago. I took it to the range today and put about 75 rounds through it. It had a couple of jams within the first 10 rounds but after that it didn't have any problems. I think the magazine was a little stiff.

There are several videos about the gun on YouTube, you might take a look at them. I think its an okay gun for the money. Purchased mine from WoodburyOutfitters.Com. The prices were pretty good and I think it makes a good home protection weapon but a little heavy to try carrying concealed.

Good luck with it.

I have the 9mm TS carbine and have never had a problem with it ,i am considering the C-9 compact but i don't know if i can get past the looks :barf:
I own Smiths ,Rugers and Sigs so as long as the gun gun works and works well i have no complaints.

I got 4

I bought a .45 and 3- 9mm. Gave the .45 and a nine to my son and kept two 9's for myself. The .45 has been to hell and back (trust me) and my 9's are in my tackle box and one in the boat for night fishing in the Florida lakes where things bump the side of your boat and you wonder "what was that" .

They get wet.......they get abused........they get no respect...but they shoot every time, all the time.

Wouldn't trade em for the money I spent.

Bought a JCP .40 because I had just finally got the divorce from the insane wife and thought better to have SOMETHING around the house for protection than nothing, and all my money had gone to the attorney... 180.00 out the door, loaded it, fired 200 Federal and Blazer brass FMJ through it, then 100 Remington JHP's, not one hiccup, was good enough for me. That was two years ago, it now has over 1200 rounds through it, still with no problems at all. Even fired two 9mm rounds that my stepson mis-loaded into it before I figured out why it wasn't ejecting...

Bought a used and abused C9 Comp, made one call to HP and three days later had all the parts I requested in the mailbox FREE OF CHARGE. Not sure how many rounds have gone through this one, from the looks of it LOTS!!! Since I updated it, I've shot over 1k Federal, Blazer brass and WWB (won't shoot any more of that though...) and over 200 Winchester PDX1 bondeds which it has loaded in it when it goes back under the wife's bedside table. Only problem I ever had with the C9 was with new ten round mags, had to tear them down and deburr the follower and mag ears before it would feed reliably. Only way to CC the 9 comfortably is with the 8 round mags, and might as well go with a revolver with that capacity.

think they are a great gun, but the vast majority of folks who respond to this thread will a) acknowledge that the guns are reliable, b) the company as a no questions as guarantee and c) the guns are accurate. This has even been tested by one of the sites moderators in a competitive environment...

But... the same people will say they would never own one because they are "ugly"

Wow! I really don't need to say anything. This pretty much sums it up.

Seriously, if that's what I could afford, that's what I would carry. My dad has one in .40 and it's been 100% reliable. Money really doesn't even matter. If you like em', go for it.

They have a great warranty. You can leave your hi-point in a bucket of salt water for a year so it rusts, tell them what you did, and they'll still fix it. Lol.

Personally, with some of the cheap milsurp available right now, I wouldn't bother with a hi-point. CDNN has cz-82's for $150, and SOG has PA-63's for $140. I'll take either of those over a hi-point plz.

I have to say this is the most positive Hi point thread I have ever seen.

I have a .380. If I fully load it, it will jam. If I leave one round out, it is fine.

I have 9mm carbine. It has jammed some, not a lot. The aim is off and I haven't tried to fix it.

I could send both in a they'd fix it and send an extra magazine for my troubles. I am just too lazy to do it, and I don't really ever use the guns anyway.

If some one can't afford another gun, I'd still say get one if they can put enough time into properly testing it out.

I have bought and been given (by my FIL) more than a few pistols/revolvers. Of them all, I love my C9 the most. No FTF or FTE. It is bulky, but it works for me. It may not be pleasant to look at, but neither am I.

whats been the best online price for a hipoint 9mm lately?

Buds has it for $136 + $25 FFL = $161 shipped (Northern VA)

I think its a little cheaper at the quarterly gun show near me (Dulles Expo) even if you inlcude the 5% sales tax, but i dont want to wait till Feb 2011

Just out of curiousity, why would anyone think that the High Point was going to "make a 1911 feel light"? A truly simple search of the same Internet that this site occupies would reveal that a 45 caliber High Point weighs, according to the manufacturer, 35 ounces, and holds 9+1 rounds.

A factory alloy framed Kimber Tactical II weighs in at 31 ounces, holding 7+1 rounds of .45 ACP.

Springfield says that their Loaded Blackened SS Combat pistol holds 7+1 rounds, and weighs in at featherlight 40 ounces !!

Could we please at least try to forgo the obvious errors in our posts?

The things work. People can hit what they're shooting at with them, and they go bang with a regularity that many more expensive guns can only wish for.

Pros: accurate, tough as nails, cheap, great customer service
cons: bulky, shape does not lend well to concelaed carry, heavy, ugly as sin.

Basically, it's a tool, and a solid one at that. Pretty costs money, so Hi-Point left that out.

Enjoy your pistol, it'll likely give you a lifetime of service...and if not, the warranty will handle that :)

114 at Onpoint, provided that's without shipping and you only get that price if you pony up amonthly fee to get premium pricing (it's worth it if you buy guns regularly, but otherwise meh). ....and it's out of stock :( They have teh .45 and .40 for 132...

Ive purchased a Hi-Point carbine in 9mm within the last year or so. I bought it online and got a flashlight and a laser with it for around $350. I think it shoots just fine. Ive had no problems with it so far.
