I am looking for a high quality, high grade rifle sling that would be suitable to go on a Winchester 1892 finished by Turnbull. The gun will have sling swivel studs. I want some suggestions as to a suitable sling.

What I want it a sling that is a simple leather strap, with chicago screws. I do not want a cobra sling. I want the highest quality leather and workmanship, minimal to no tooling.

I appreciate the suggestions all.

I have a few from Brass Stacker. Excellent quality.

I also have holsters from Diamond D and their slings look nice, but I’ve not touched one and they appear more modern than the traditional Brass Stacker….. Edit…”Cobra Sling”….I understand now. These Diamond D would not be what you’re looking for, but the Brass Stacker fits your bill perfectly. I’ll try to take some pics when I get home.

Aside from using a sling to tote your rifle around, who uses one as a shooting aid? I have recently started, and it has helped me quite a bit.

It would be nice if the sling matched the case, but the sling is more important to me because its part of the gun in my mind.

I will use a sling for a shooting aid when I see the need, but I practice so much off hand, and normally shoot at such short ranges, that I can manage without it. I generally only shoot to 100, and most of the time closer. Mostly I want the sling for carrying purposes when afield.

My opinion, the Montana 1" sling seems to fill the bill. Have one on my Win Mod 94 30-30. Simply works.

I have 2 Montana slings. A 1" and a 1 1/4". I wouldn't use anything else after using them. Overall I prefer the 1" sling. It is only 1-2 ounces more than the lightest nylon slings, but is so much better. The wider sling is a bit heavier and bulky. It is a good fit on a heavier rifle, but overall the narrower version is my favorite.

They can be mounted either way. With the loop toward the forend it can be used as a shooting aid. But that puts the slick leather on your shoulder when carrying it. Most of the time I mount mine with the loop toward the butt. This puts the rough leather against your shoulder and keeps it from sliding off.

I would be more interested in appropriate sling swivel studs for a classy lever action.

Very similar to the barrel band safari rifle style would be a inletted two screw rear, and a forward magazine tube mounted front band swivel.

The “best” for actual carry would be the Wells Fargo(?) bank/train guard style.

However…..
I think a very good case could be made for no sling swivels at all.
The M92 is a slick, quick, saddle rifle, and the only thing hanging off the rifle should be a saddle ring and a rear receiver peep sight. A nice leather rifle saddle scabbard might be a more traditional way to carry it if it is not in your hands ready to go. But a horse might be a little more trouble than a rifle sling…
