Wondering who makes the best sling out there these days. I'm setting up my vintage Rem 760 for woods hunting. Looking for a minimalist sling. This will not be so much for a shooting aid other than perhaps a hasty wrap. Most of my rifles wear M1907s, but I find them a bit snaggy in the heavy brush, so looking for a sling with less loops and accoutremont hanging out there.

I want leather, a slight swell and shoulder pad (cobra style?) and classic looks and most of all durability in all weather.

What do folks have on their hard bitten woods rifles?

I'm not above spending real money on a quality product. I plan to hunt with this rifle for a long time.

For bonus points, what's a good stock wrap/cheek riser?

If I put a sling on a rifle these days it always is a Ching sling. It is only slightly more cumbersome than a simple carrying strap but is much more useful.

Those wide straps with the cobra style shoulder pad get heavy real quick. That can be a real problem trying to hold steady with a heavy sling swinging under your rifle.

I really like the Montana sling. They can be mounted with the loop on the forend and used as a shooting aid, or with the loop toward the butt. With the loop toward the butt the rough leather against your shoulder keeps the rifle in place. For heavier rifles they make a 1 1/4" version, but for most uses I like the narrower 1".

I treated both of mine with virgin olive oil. It softens the leather and weatherproofs it.

i love the super thick leather 1907 slings, but for carry, i'd take the armageddon gear nylon sling, with the bungee

Andy’s Leather. His Ching and Rhodesian slings are both very high quality at a fair price. I have several.
