why are their no really high powered semi auto pistols? like the 454 casull, or 500 s&w magnum? i know revolvers are by nature stronger. so is it that in order to make a pistol strong enough to withstand the big cartridges, they would be very heavy?

Perhaps you've noticed the size, weight, complexity and cost of the Desert Eagle. The .454 and .500 have far more pressure, velocity and recoil than anything that pistol is already chambered for. Such a handgun, if anyone were able to engineer and produce it, would have even more of the same. You would also lose the ability to download the cartridge for practice shooting or smaller game and be restricted to jacketed bullets.

:DAwwww what the h*ll, I will say it....becuase only real men with real handguns can handle such beasties of cartridges. Don't believe me, ask Danny Vermin when he is packing his 88 magnum..."It shoots through schools.":neener:

Really, you reach the point where, for practicality, it is better to just carry a handy-sized rifle, and be done with it.

I also cannot imagine the long, fat, rimmed cases of a .454 or .500 feeding in an autoloading action. The Desert Eagle manages it with the .44 Magnum, but just barely. Note that the .50 AE is a rimless case.
