I have a High Standard Duramatic pistol that isn't feeding or ejecting properly. The gun came to me with no magazine, so I bought one from Numrich. The gun is marked "M-101" on the frame so I bought a magazine for a Model 101. It appears to be feeding ammo at too high of an angle. The nose of the bullet is hitting the chamber at 12 o clock position. If I hand load a single round into the chamber, it will fire, but it usually stovepipes the case. Sometimes it doesn't even extract the case.

I know there are two versions of magazines for the Duramatic, but how can I tell the magazine shipped to me is truly for this model.

Other than magazine, what are some possible causes/solutions to this?

And they all came from the same place. I still have two more from there to function check.
Hey, with a handle like "DBCooper", you have be able to take a little ribbing!
My handle should give you a clue to that, lol .
Seriously though, glad you are asking and trying to rectify these, especially that 62a you're working on. I wouldn't mind having one of those myself..
Just keep us informed and somebody here will click with the right answer sooner or later.

Like most, if not all, High Standard semi-auto .22 pistols, the magazine follower on the Duramatic serves as the "feed ramp". Magazine lips, followers and springs are important components in most auto pistols but especially so with High Standards. My advice is to look high and low for a magazine in pristine condition for your Duramatic and see if that doesn't fix the problem. Unfortunately, once you find the magazine, you might have to put it in lay-away or make installment payments before you can afford to pay for it. :(

22LR is very sooty ammunition. Deep cleaning may be required. Be sure to dis-assemble and clean the mag, especially.

And this is why I dont mess around with Hi-Standards.......but I respect the dedication of those that do.
Good luck, though, DB!

I'm not dedicated. It's not even a gun I wanted. It came to me along with a Colt Challenger, which is what I wanted, and now I'm really just trying to make something out of it. Seriously, "free guns" are like "free dogs"...very expensive. The replacement mag, used from Numrich, was $60. smh.

Haha, true that! My $35 Mossberg project gun is up to about $300 now with all the replacement parts and accessories......

Don’t buy a KKK mag for it FYI. They are absolute garbage. I also can’t get my $50 mag from the new Texas hi standard to work. The original mag works but the square impression in the side that latches the mag in place is worn and it drops out most of the time.

consult a hi standard mag tuning guru. Buy a bunch of tools. Read a book about it. Likely you will still not be able to get it to work 100% if you’re like me.

Holy crap. I just received 4 mags from Numrich. 2 for a S&W 22A-1 and 2 for a S&W 422. They didn't cost nearly that much. Only just over 30 bucks each, and I thought that was expensive.

Thats nothin, have you seen what they are asking for factory Mini-14 mags now? Ive seen 5-rounders goin for $100 on Ebay!

Those were always expensive. Ruger thought they were being slick using proprietary mags rather than AR mags. I suspect sales of Mini 14s are much lower because of that.

In other news, I need to figure out how to offload this thing.

Post it in the Trading Post. We have enough High Standard wierdos here that someone will want it, lol.

I have never had good luck worth any aftermarket mags. I have the adjustment tool but have not tried to tune them yet so they may work after tuning. Don’t buy aftermarket mags for your High Standard. Buy from the source of High Standard https://interarmstx.com/product-category/high-standard-style-magazines-parts/.

I have heard nothing but good things about interarmstx and the fact that they are former HS employees/owners seems legit to me.

Thanks for the info. They're out of stock on mags for this particular gun, plus, that's yet another $55 expense.

Not if you pay attention to the listings. In the last 6 months I have bought two factory 20 rounders for $29 each and a factory 30 rounder for $34.:DAlso three 5 rounders and a 10 in a lot from an estate for $50. The guy selling the 30 got spanked by eBay. He had it on a buy it now, I saw it and did, he shipped it asap but when I got it and tried to leave feedback it said it had been removed. The seller of the 20s had a bunch of them and never got spanked on them that I saw. They probably went quick. .

I have a duramatic magazine that is original and is 100% reliable feeding and extracting. I will send it to you to try and see if it solves your problem. If it does, I have a couple extra factory magazines that also cycle perfectly. But I need the original returned. 20220407_184532.jpg 20220407_184512.jpg 20220407_184504.jpg 20220407_184532.jpg 20220407_184512.jpg 20220407_184504.jpg

That's very generous (and trusting) of you. I accept. I'll send you my address.

Just picked up a duramatic myself. Mag doesn’t look well. To say the Pistol was dirty is an understatement. Cleaned the top end. Will next clean the frame. Was going to put the whole thing in my ultrasonic. Need some alcohol to help dry it out when done. Let us know how things work out.
