HIT THIS POLL -- should gun ownership be banned?

I think that it is just a biased poll designed to help the antis. I would have voted if the second question would have had anything to do with the first. i.e. "No, guns are not the main reason of/for crime."

Wow this is the most biased article I've ever read on the subject....I mean look at the title. There's a pawn shop in GA that sells guns legally and responsibly, and they call it a "little shop of horrors". Good grief

What a bunch of bull****. Saying that "guns are too much a part of American culture and history", is a stupid, impotent argument for this liberty of ours. I would no more use that statement as the premise of the debate as I would use 'hunting' or "sporting purposes".

Its called poll gerrymandering. Half of us don't agree with the statement. They bank on the idea that we won't vote because of it. That way they can bring the poll numbers up to where they want them.

Clearly a highly biased article and a poll designed to produce a result consistent with the author's viewpoint. Still, it gives me pleasure to vote the "wrong way," even if the pro-gun choice is worded terribly.

We are winning 59% to 41%, yeah!

Also a good hint the article was crap is just look at the other stories that are linked, general crap all around like a monkey was let loose in a room full of feces.

If our side wins you'll never hear another thing about it. If they win they'll trumpet it until the cows come home.

I sent a short and sweet email to the editor asking if a ban would really stop criminals from having guns :)

His response ????

"Thanks for reading, and thanks for taking the time to write. This story generated a lot of e-mail on both sides …

Take care

Larry"

I sent an email asking why he did not answer... I have a feeling I'm dealing with one of them there brick walls :D

What a one-sided biased piece of BS. My favorites : "5 guns were confiscated in NYC". Notice it doesn't say "used in a crime" it says confiscated.

And

"Turn a blind eye to red flags like repeat buyers". Anyone here fit that particular 'red flag' profile?

That article made me want to vommit. They should ban the sales of cars and trucks. After all their "illegal" guns that were "smuggled" into New York were done so in vehicles, right? So the dealers who sold those vehicles are just as responsible, right? Hell, tire companies put tires on those vehicles, are they responsible too? What about the gas stations that sold gas to the "smugglers", shouldn't they be responsible? And did they have to pay any tolls along the way while they were "smuggling" guns? Shouldn't the toll booth operators be responsible for letting the "smugglers" through?

Dang, articles like this make me ashamed to report that I am a charter member and taxpayer of "The (Evil) Empire State," where said article was published. And what an empire it is! :barf:

"There are lots of guns confiscated that trace to hundreds of stores," the owner said. "We buy and sell guns legitimately. What happens after that, we don't have any control over." This says it all ... and he's right! But never let logic and facts interfere with a good story.

Voted.

You can't trust polls

MisterMike - Clearly a highly biased article and a poll designed to produce a result consistent with the author's viewpoint. Still, it gives me pleasure to vote the "wrong way," even if the pro-gun choice is worded terribly.

+1

I too voted for no other reason, then to make sure that they are unable to quote the poll. I can see the ignorant line like, "70% of Americans want to ban private gun ownership."

longdayjake - Its called poll gerrymandering. Half of us don't agree with the statement. They bank on the idea that we won't vote because of it. That way they can bring the poll numbers up to where they want them.

This is why you can't trust polls. I say we look at how the American public has voted with it's dollars. During an economic downturn gun sales are at an all time high.

Voted NO

Such biased BS makes you want to puke!!!! And they cannot even notice their own contradiction in the article:-

The city's longstanding crackdown on illegal handguns is working, officials argue, as the numbers indicate fewer weapons are making it into New York.

But this year's crime stats suggest the downward trend of gun violence is changing. Through June 13, city murders are up almost 8%, from 182 last year to 196.

Shooting incidents are up from 538 in the same time period last year to 576 this year. And the number of shooting victims rose, from 660 to 704 this year - with at least 111 people shot to death.

"Guns remain murderers' weapons of choice," Kelly said

Yep - their crackdown is working real well - just like in Chicago it seems.

Little Shop of Horror: Georgia store Arrowhead Pawn sold nine guns that made their way to New York
