I am looking for a gun for CC. I like the Glocks and the M&P and the XD's but I don't like the light trigger pull for a CCW. So I have found the HK P2000 V3 and like the decocker. The gun feels like it belongs in my hand. I also tried the Walther P99c and was impressed. It had that handy little decocker as well.

So, what other guns should I consider? I really like the DA/SA and I like the ability - especially on the P2000 - to be able to cock the hammer so the first shot is also SA. I would prefer polymer for weight. The gun will most likely be in 9mm. Am I missing anything here or are those two the only ones with those specifications?

I would also really like personal opinions from those who own or have shot both of the above guns. Likes and dislikes?

I absolutely love my P99. I've never had any issues with it at all. Very smooth trigger, DA/SA is nice, and it's striker fired if that's something you like. In terms of function, the P2000 and P99 are equal. I much prefer the feel of the P99 to the P2000.

The HK P2000sk is closer to the Walther P99c in size. I would also suggest the Sig P239 as well.

The HK P2000 is a little larger than the Walther P99c in size. You could also look at the HK P2000.

Yes, I am considering the compact and the standard models of both the Walther and the HK.

I will take a look at the Sig but I always assumed that they were heavier steel guns.

Try Dao

I use a double action only H&K P2000 at work. It is a very good pistol. You may find that the simpler action of a DAO pistol fits your needs.

They are heavier steel guns. They are nice. I have a Sig P228. Its a great gun and it feels nice. The recoil is minimal as it is a 9mm and the weight of the gun is a factor.

It is not in production but you can find them around. The Sig P229 is similar in size and weight but it is one ounce heavier. These are excellent firearms that will last you as well.

All of the options you have considered are excellent and will work. It just boils down to personal preference. I myself prefer HK over just about anything else, however I do want a Walther P99 very much.

CZ75D Compact PCR or P-01. (I have a PCR.) These are DA/SA with a very slick decocker system. When ready for normal use (decocked with the lever) the hammer sits at about a "one-third-cock" position, shortening the trigger reach and stroke. The frames are not polymer, but aluminum alloy. (CZ's only polymer guns are a version of the 2075 RAMI and the 100.) The weight difference is insignificant. These are almost exactly the same size as a SIG P228/229 and even fit in some of the same holsters.

H&K also makes a P30, which is similar in size to the full size P2000. I've never handled one, but I've heard great things. Another pistol you may want to consider is an HK P7. You can get a P7-PSP for around the same price as a P2000sk. It's more of a compact size rather than subcompact, but it's very thin and conceals well. The trigger is single action, but is only functional when depressing a cocker on the front side of the grip. I love it, and I know a lot of people who feel the same way about the P7.

Only the Sig ST models. Most sigs have an alloy frame like the 220,226,228,229 with a steel slide and barrel.
Buy the P99 or P99c, I have three P99s and all three have been perfectly reliable.

AS mentioned already, you owe it to yourself to look at the new P30.

I own both a HK P2000SK and a Walther P99c. These two pistols are as similar as guns can be...they must be related in some way. Either one would be and excellent choice. I cannot tell they difference when shooting, both deliver excellent accuracy, are soft shooting, reliable, point well, and as you mentioned, feel made for your hand.

My only suggestion is to pick the one that you think fits better or you get a killer deal on. The Walther is cheaper, but the HK will probably last longer...a toss up perhaps. Either one, or the HK P30, is a intelligent choice that will deliver all you want in a firearm. Good luck.

Also note that the S&W 99s are functionally the same as the Walther. I have 2 of them and they're my favorite shooters. CDNN has them for a pretty good price...

I have a P2000SK and will be carrying it more when my Milt Sparks Holster shows up this week. It is very close to the P99c as USP9 has pointed out. I haven't yet shot the Wlather but know folks who have them and love them. I really like the feel and accuracy I get with my P2000Sk in variant 3. I'm actually eyeing up the walther PPS right now if you haven't checked that out yet but it is not a DA/SA gun.

I've had a P99c for about a year now. Took my defensive handgun class with it, shot it at the range, about 3500 rounds through it. No failures of any kind. I like the decocker, grip feels right to me and it is naturally pointing. If it was stolen, I'd go right out and buy another.

Well, I ended up with the Walther P99c. I took it to the range for the first time today. There seems to be something wrong with it. I shot it 3 times from a rest but there was only one hole in the target:D

Seriously though, it fits like a glove and one handed I can clean out the 10 ring at 7 yards. I think it's a keeper.

Damn - TRIPLE post! The post wouldn't go - and I refreshed it many times and never saw ANY of these - that's why I posted again. Sorry!

I have a UPSc in 9mm and its ok, but no where near the size of a P2000, you might look at the p2000k. They are nice, but the DAO takes some getting used to. Anyway good luck and don't work too hard.

Good choice on the P99c! I love mine, it has been 100%, has a smooth A/S trigger, comfy ergos, and is very accurate.

The P99s, IMHO, are real sleepers in the polymer pistol market.

Now start saving your pennies again for your NEXT Walther... The PPS.

Here's why. (P99c/AS on left, PPS on right).

Shipwreck is responsible for getting me into the P99 business, (but never offered to help pay for one :D) and I am of the opinion that the P99c/AS is simply the perfect cc weapon except for one thing.. It's a bit too "thick" for cc at times. It has a better trigger/striker than the PPS, it has a higher capacity than the PPS, the rear sight is screw adjustable whereas on the PPS it is only "drift" adjustable.

So, for those times when a P99c/AS is simply too bulky for cc you might consider the PPS. Oh yeah, notice the 3 white dot sights on the PPS are roughly twice the size of those on the P99c/AS.

I don't feel disloyal to the P99c/AS in buying a new PPS as, hey, it's all in the family...:D

I'm not selling my two P99's, just adding to the stable.

I may be prejudiced (OK, I'll admit I'm prejudiced) but I honestly believe that if the majority of those folks who carry a PPK had the chance to hold and shoot a PPS they would be swapping cc choices... PPK's are classics, and I like 'em too, but the PPS offers (IMO) in comparison to the PPK a better round, better sights, better trigger, no slide bite...

As soon as Shipwreck sends the money I want to get my P99c/AS slide hard chromed like his...

Best Wishes, you'll love the P99c... Fine weapon.

The Walther P99c is the SA type. Actually, that is what sold me. I really wanted a gun that had a decocker. I just didn't feel quite right with a striker under tension with it pointed at my . . . well you get the idea. The fact that it fits like a glove and that is quite accurate are real nice as well.

Maybe I will get a PPS someday but, like Px15, I am still waiting on my money from Shipwreck.

I was also looking for a holster and I saw the Uncle Mike's (i think, the tag is gone) holster that my wife uses for her S&W 442. I shoved the Walther in there and, although it fit quite snugly, it seems to work quite well in the appendix position. I wore it for most of the day today and it was somewhat uncomfortable but I think that had to do more with the fact that my jeans are a little tight to begin with and shoving a gun in the waistband didn't seem to help any.

But, the trigger is covered, the holster is very thin, and the gun is secure. I guess that is what I was looking for.
