I've ordered a HK416 which I'll be picking up very soon, but the only thing missing on the 416 are the inner parts of the receiver. My question is, does anyone know whether the inner parts (trigger group, auto sear, selector, etc.) of the lower receiver are interchangeable between a Colt M16A1 and a HK416 lower? I really want to maintain its HK416 looks, but seeing as H&K parts are pretty damn expensive it would be nice if I could use generic parts to assemble the HK416's receiver, instead of having to use H&K parts. I'm also in the process of building a Colt M16, and seeing as the set of inner parts I bought for the M16 lower fitted it like a glove, I wanted to buy an extra set of those parts and use the 2nd set for the HK416 lower. Hence my question.

While comparing pictures of both the brand name H&K parts as well as those of Colt and generic mil-spec ones I didn't see any difference between them (except the price). And with the HK416 originally being developed by H&K as a parts upgrade for M4 rifles, I would think they'd be interchangeable. But you guys and gals have way more knowledge and wisdom than I do, so I hope some of you might know whether I could save some money building that HK416?

I'm also wondering whether anyone knows which parts are interchangeable between a HK416 and a HK417, or more generally, between an AR-15 and an AR-10? Will both (the HK416 and HK417, or the AR-15 and AR-10) be able to fit the same handguard, the same stock, or maybe even the same buffer tube (just the tube, I understand they will need a different buffer spring and buffer weight)? And I assume you definitely won't be able to use the same inner parts for assembling the HK416 and HK417 (or AR-15 and AR-10) receiver?

Some parts are interchangeable but not all. Im not sure a regular Colt lower parks kit will fit. For example Geissele, the trigger company, sells a separate trigger for the HK416 that they do for regular AR15/M16 rifles.

Yeah, that's kind of what I was afraid of. It makes sense that they want to protect their income by slightly changing some dimensions, thus preventing non-H&K items being used in their receivers. Ow well, it was worth a try, thanks for the info though!
