Yeap the hk91 type guns puts nasty lines in brass. Soft brass that is. It's not reloadable. You can get Military Surplus ammo that has hard brass and it won't be tore up as bad but I doubt you can reload them. FALS have adjustable gas pressure so they can be reloadable. I don't know I think I'd rather have a armalite ar 10 carbine than a FAL. Right now a FN SCAR H in 308 is the best semi auto assualt rifle out there. Then I would say a ar10 carbine. The a FAL probably would be next. Last on my list would be the hk91 type guns. M1as are great but don't have the assualt rifle look to them and seem harder to feild strip than some others.

I'm a firm believer in the HK91. Mine has been a flawless companion for quite a few years now. While I tend to use my ARs, or VZ58 more frequently that has more to do with the cost of ammo than the performance of the rifles. Nothing says you're serious quite like a .308.

You can reload H&K 91 Brass, been doing it for years!
My H&K 91 does not chew up the brass like others that I have seen and the flute marks do not affect the brass other than looks!
These shoot right at MOA!

My lines of beauty were deeper than those. Same looking lines but deeper. And here I tossed out 3 super x cases thinking they can't be reloaded. :(

Hey Kids I just called my local gun shop today. The salesman said that Century Arms got my rifle in and they are suppoused to inspect it today. The salesman also said he won't be hearing back from them until like monday or tuesday. I hope they can fix my gun right instead of sending me a new one.

I prefer a FAL
Of all the others I have shot it seemed to fit me the best.
I built mine a few years with a bi-pod cut Imbel kit and Imbel GL receiver.

I find it reasonably accurate for what it is.
I use the irons and can get consistent hits on an 8x13" target up 300 or so yards, after that I can't see it anymore and am just guessing where it is.

I did install a DSA scope mount which is rock solid but I haven't tried anything but a cheap red dot from wally world on it.
The reason I got it is that it is also a para cover as well.
Using it you do not have to get the receiver cut for a top cover and it works with a standard and para FAL.
It gives me the option of mounting an optic later on as well.

Just a mock up of the SA para lower.

At the moment the lower is completely stripped.
It is in the process of getting refinished.
Mmmmm 7.62x51

Powermad what pistol is that? Looks like a M&P by Smith and Wesson. I could be wrong though.

I seen a deal on cheaperthandirts magazine. 200 rounds of nato 7.62 ammo for just over 85 bucks before shipping. I think it was bulgarian kind but in a sealed like water proof pack it looked like. It was military surplus ammo from what I could tell.

I just called century today. They said it's a 2 to 3 week turn around there. They couldn't give me any info on my gun but that they got it last wednesday. They said they get returns in all the time. I wish I could of thought of a smart butt remark to say like "Yeah I'll Believe That" but oh well. They said to call in the middle to the end of next week to see if they have any new info about it.

My gun came back from the factory last monday but it still don't work right so the gun shop sent it back again for the second time. I decided to get a full refund.

Sorry to hear that.

Seems like every FAL receiver copy out there needs the feed plate polished or trimmed up a bit to feed right. Century and Entreprise are known for past cave man creations and even DSA has produced some duds since the gun rush.

Maybe hold on to you cash for a good deal on a working rifle. I'm sure someone at FAL files would be more than happy to help you locate a good deal.

I've shot them all except the SAIGA, and hands down, the M1A is by far my favorite.

Don't know about the FAL section. At "Gunandgame", I only read the Enfield and Garand forums, but those guys are adults, with a sense of humour. Yes, adults.

To be quite frank, they never make personal attacks on each other when they disagree with others' viewpoints, or become overly defensive about their choice of AR vs. AK etc battle rifle etc, as happens on several other websites.

That's why it's by far my favorite gun site, along with "Milsurps/com", "Surplusrifle", "Gunboards" etc.

Here's a cell-phone taken 'beauty shot' of my PTR-91, with all the bells and whistles attached. Taken just moments before I took the pistol grip assembly off to send out for a trigger job.

All semi-auto .308 battle rifles make up a group large enough to perhaps warrant their own forum, not just a "club" thread (of which, we don't need anymore, anyway).

A better use of the thread would be a discussion of why one rifle is preferred to others. I personally am a fan of the FAL family for its ergonomics and balance. I dislike the HK91 for not having these things. I like the M1A for its beauty, and for being the last US "old school" rifle, even if made 20 years or more after its time. I like the AR-10 for its ease of accessorizing, its ergonomics, and for not being an HK91.

Since it obviously bears stating again, gratuitous pictures of women are not only not wanted here, but will incur infractions to the poster.

LOL. I think in order to contribute to this thread we need to sell those little Calvin stickers which I see in the rear windows of pickup trucks around here, peeing on some FAL or HK or Springfield Armory, etc. trademark!

People sure do get wrapped in this sort of discussion.

What I find most amusing is the erroneous info passed about about the HK and similar clones. Can't reload the brass? I've never had that problem. Ergonomics? I've installed ambi safety/selector and a paddle magazine release. Seems to work well for me. I love the claw mount Hensholdt scope, it fits on and returns to zero readily.

I don't know. These rifle sure are fun tho.
