I got some pretty good scores at the latest gun auction i went to and i would really like to know what i've got for sure and what it may be worth. I plan on keeping most of the dies and the powder measures but i will probably sell the hollywood stuff not sure though yet. Well i'll post the dies first i've got a herters professional set 6.5x55 swede, herters 30-30, hollywood .257 roberts, lee .222, rcbs carbide dies in 38,357, and 44mag/special, and a 8mm mauser die set i can't remember what make i think herters. I also got a bullet puller thats an unknown.

The powder measures i got a redding model 3 and a lyman. the redding has some slight rust on the outside from sitting and needs a resevoir but it should clean up quite well.

The hollywood gun shop press is what I'm most interested in. I'm not really sure what model i have or when it was made I'm guessing the 50's. It is a 12 hole press with just three holes the larger size the rest standard 7/8-14. I took it to a good friend and had him look and the shotgun set up on it and he said that it was for reloading Brass shotshells. Its missing the resevoir on both the powder measure and shot measure but other than that i don't know it is in great working order the owner kept it well lubricated it has the old tent like bag he kept over it that is more or less soaked in oil like a gun rag so it's rust free on the turrent head and a slight patenia on the dies.

So does anyone know if this is for sure for loading brass shotshells and if so whats the whole setup worth and then whats just the press worth. Thank you any info is much appreciated.

You have a Hollywood Turret Press, set up for loading shotgun shells. Depending on the crimp die, and whether or not it's set up for star crimping or roll crimping, it should load most any shotgun shell. If it's set up for roll crimping only, then a card wad was used as an overshot wad and the case mouth was rolled over on top of it.

Is the press cast iron or aluminum? Touching a magnet to it will tell you.

Hope this helps.

The press you have is the Hollywood Universal, very nice press, one of the first that could load 50BMG cartridges.

The shotgun die set has a shell holder that resizes and has the wad guide, this holder snaps into the shell holder that is mounted on the press ram.

The larger die is for depriming and seating wads, also for seating wads at a set pressure.

You should have two smaller dies one that is a crimp starter, inside it looks like it has pie cuts.
The second die is the finish crimp die, that die finishes folding the case mouth and finishes the crimp like factory.

The press is set up for all four primer types, small and large, flat and rounded primers.

Yes at one time they made a rounded primer in addition to the flat one we have today.

Very nice setup!!!:)

I don't have any other dies so i guess i only have a finish crimp die???
Also theres no more big thread holes that one would fit in either.

Is there anyplace to get one of the reservoirs for the measures?
oh and i'm still looking for a value to put on it.
thanks

just saw a Hollywood press that had a crappy paint job sell for $250 with nothing else with it on E-bay, and a few weeks before a nice refinished one sold for $750 , most of the time only the cast iron ones sell for that high dollar . not sure if the bidders/buyer knew that , but someone else tried to sell one in original condition for $749 and it did not sell , I'm waiting for a cast-iron one ,but when they come up for sale I don't have the cash :( . shell holders and handles and some other Hollywood parts come up for sale on E-bay all the time

Run a 12 ga. hull through it and see what happens. You might have to fill it with cornmeal, or something else to simulate a case with powder and shot, if you don't have those. Without a crimp starter, though, it will either roll the case mouth or scrunch it. In either case, you'll know better what you have.

Hope this helps.
