Hi, I bought an old used holster I like, only thing is the snap on it is slightly too long, so I'm wonding if someone can tell me how much "work" / "equipment" it would take for me to move the snap down one.. ? I have no clue.. Thanks!

You would need to use a drill to remove the two rivets,,,
Then punch two new holes and re-rivet it.

They look like normal Tandy rivets,,,
The tool is a couple of bucks,,,
A bag of rivets is the same.

All in all it would cost less than 10 bucks,,,
If you remove the rivets first then the guy at the Tandy store will probably just rivet it for you.

The whole job would take me about 10 minutes.

The snap has also been set in the leather. You'd need a new line 20 snap, and a setting tool. Look into the snap and you can see where it is flared over. A stud from the backer/button comes through the leather, through the middle of the female part of the snap, and is set like a rivet. Not particularly hard to do, and the components are pretty cheap, but you don't want to overlook that if you go buy or order anything.

Honestly I would probably just leave the reinforcing strap alone if you can and just install a new snap in the right location, providing it will fit between the rivets of the reinforcement.

How short is it? An old trick used for saddle and tack straps is stretching. Soak the strap in 90% Alcohol and you can easily stretch it 1/2" or more. Keep it under stress until it drys. Treat it with saddle soap.

I would only alter skip the saddle soap and go straight to skidmores leather cream. Your leather will love you longer.

try to find a good shoe repair shop and see if they will do the repair.
