Sorry if this has been done before fellows. I searched and didn't turn much up.

I'm looking at using a 442 as a CCW.

How will it work for pocket carry? Any recommendations for pocket holsters?

My preferred method is IWB. Who makes a good inside waistband holster for the 442? Will any holster for a J frame work with this revolver?

Just a little background here... I normally carry a Springfield XD sub IWB, but have to fall back to a Kel-Tec P3AT when wearing certain attire. The P3AT hides very well in the pocket and I don't even know its there when carrying it IWB. However, I'm not confident that it will perform reliably if needed, so I'm thinking of replacing it with a 442.

Thanks

Mika Pocket Holsters are cheap in price, but work very well. Picture is Mika Square Cut Pocket Holster with S&W 340MP. Mr. Mika will custom make the holster to your needs. Excellent customer service.

All major holster manufacturers make IWB for the 442. Google on Don Hume, Galco, Gould & Goodrich, etc. and there will be many options. Don Hume IWB are highly regarded and inexpensively priced.

Blackhawk SERPA j-frame holster/Desantis pocket holsters

For a good well made pocket holster check out the excellent DeSantis "Superfly" or the older(but still good) Nemnesis line. The holsters are low cost, conceal well and protect your small J-frame 442 .38spl. I bought a DeSantis pocket rig in 2004 for a Taurus snub .357magnum(Protector Ti).

For beltline CC use look into the highly respected and for the $$$ low cost, ;), Blackhawk SERPA holster for the S&W J frames. This plastic rig can convert from a belt to a paddle holster(both included) and conceals a J-frame well. The SERPA offers level 2 security and will be a long lasting, good looking holster. The belt model can also be fit for different width sizes(1 1/4", 1 1/2", 2 1/4", etc). Blackhawk also sells a decent black leather rig that's a retro type .38spl J-frame design.

See www.Blackhawk.com or look for the Desantis holster homepage.

I like the alessi APX.
it's an IWB, like the talon, however he puts the talon clip ahead of the revolver, so it does not add the bulk to the cylinder. Lou's stuff is top notch.

Doug S posted a picture of Mika's pocket holster. I have a round cut Mika pocket holster and I think it's the best I've used. Since you said you would rather carry with a IWB holster, Mika also makes them. I bought one and it's very comfortable and it works. Take a look Here.

If you want a snap-on IWB holster instead of a clip-on take a look at This One by Don Hume. This is the clip-on IWB holster Don Hume offers. All three I linked to are good holsters IMO and the prices are fair too.

UPDATE: Blackhawk right-hand SERPA J-frame marked down...

Just went on www.MidwayUSA.com . The Blackhawk J-frame S&W right hand holster is marked down to about $21.00USD.

That is a very good price for a SERPA/j-frame holster.

;)

Look at the Mika. I found the round cut to be more to my liking than the square cut. If you get an IWB consider having Robert attach the clip so the holster rides with a forward cant. I had him make mine with about a 25 degree cant and if I had it to do over I would go with another 5 degrees but that is my preference.
