Rifles are for Liberty

A shotgun or revolver are for defense of ones home from thieves or other such intruders of opportunity, Our rifles are for defense of what the Forefathers fought for - LIBERTY. I call mine my Liberty Rifles and that they shall remain, and be revered.

"Homeland" also creeps me out, but I suppose it's where we are today. In that case, I have not heard a better term than Homeland Defense Rifle.

I wouldn't mind an "American Defense Rifle" though.

CDR

Civilian Defense Rifle

Does not have full auto military feature. Suitable for civilians.

Or, you could just use the name. AR-15, etc. Sorry AK guys, your gun has the same name as the "bad" ones. Too bad.

"Hey, tha's an assault rifle!"
"How do you know?"
"Well, it looks like and assault rifle."
"Fooled you, its a CDR, Civilian Defense rifle. It just looks like an assault rifle!"
"They make them look like this to scare the terrorists!"

I will bet dollars to doughnuts on a man understanding that he's shooting a rifle - even if it's a $100 single-shot NEF - beating a man thinking he's shooting an "assault rifle", "assault weapon" or "homeland defense weapon" - even if it's the latest and greatest $1000 autoloading leadchucker.

A rifle is a rifle is a rifle. Each shot counts.

GPR = General Purpose Rifle

You guys still arguing about my General Purpose Rifle?

I already have a GPR.

You get your own.

I call my rifle a "Hunting Rifle!"

Some times I'm hunting Paper...
Some times I'm hunting 4 legged animals...
Some times I'm hunting 2 legged animals...

Works for me :)

And simple "rifle" is not enough because "assault rifle" already exists. You can't fight a two-word catchphrase with a single-word generic term.

I wholeheartedly disagree. The above statement is where we continue to lose the battle.

"Assault Weapons and Assault Rifles":

The adjective "assault" only applies to the noun "rifle" or the noun "weapon" in terms of intent. Applying 'intent' to an inanimate object is just plain old B.S. There is some other motive in the minds of people using these terms than simple semantics.

We have let people who do not accept the people's basic right to own "rifles" or "weapons" define our terms.

What is more "deadly"? A 30-06 single-shot, forged, bull-barrel, break-action rifle (which I can personally reload in about a micro-second) or stamped, short-barreled 7.62x39 "AK-47" rifle?

Fundamentally, anyone wishing to outlaw the latter MUST outlaw the former.

How 'bout we all start calling it an "AK-47 Rifle"...an "AR15 Rifle"... a "Remington Rifle"... a "Winchester Rifle". They are all basically the same. WE need to start treating them as such. We cannot blame it on peple who never shoot.

"Homeland Defense Rifle", "Hunting Rifle":

Putting some new name on the rifle variants 'we' supposedly support only helps the enemy. They have WON when we talk that language.

Do you suggest we form a list of accepted "Homeland Defense Rifles" and "Non-Accepted Rifles"? Because that is what will happen.

Any rifle is a rifle - an extremely deadly weapon.

A weapon is a weapon - anything someone chooses to harm another - it can be a knife, a baseball bat, a rock or a rolling pin.

The USA must either accept deadly weapons in the hands of its citizens...and thrive, or outlaw deadly weapons in the hands of its citizens...and fail.

Anything in between is just political posturing.

i'm with mattewvanitas on this one. we shouldnt have to budge on this one. or shouldnt need to. or want to. a rifle is a rifle, a pistol is a pistol and a shot gun is a shot gun. any thing beyond that is unnecasary. so, homeland defense rifle huh. stupidest damn thing ive ever heard.

No big fan myself of the "Homeland" term but we are rather stuck with it so we may as well make the most of it we can. I understood there was consulting going on with Ex-KGB leaders for advisors so I'm surprised it didn't end up being called "Ministry of Homeland Security" instead of "Department of Homeland Security".

I'm kind of partial to Committee for State Security myself.

Local US Coast Guard Commissary was selling "Homeland Security" uniform items, hats, sweatshirts -- with the emblem. These are official uniform items.

Pretty soon every kid in town was wearing one. Commissary pulled the items off the shelves. Yeah, you have to be military to get into the Commissary, but there's no restrictions on buying the items for civilians. No restrictions on wear either since they're "recreational" clothing and not part of a "duty dress."

I refer to my firearms as "Second Amendments" --

"CIVIL DEFENSE WEAPONS"

Hey....I kinda like the "Civil Defense Rifle" idea too. Since we use to have a civil defense back when I was a kid. I know this sounds dumb to some of you guys but there is a lot to the idea of naming things. It is true that "A Rose By Any Other Name Is Still A Rose" but we are dealing with politicians and idiots (not overly intelligent people) who have been brainwashed into fearing the term "Assault Weapons". If "WE" are gonna win this game we have to learn their rules and use them to our advantage. Ever hear of the term "Politically Correct". I hate it but it works !!! Actually..Whats wrong with a list of accepted weapons for "Civil Defense Weapons". That way we associate those weapons to the name "Civil Defense Weapons" and the stigma and association with the "Assault Weapons" moniker would fade. Hmmm.... "Civil Defense Weapons" I really like this one !!!
