Question for the experts. I was loading some 10mm last night with a Hornady 40/10 Taper crimp die. Seating 180 gr. xtreme RNFP HPCB bullets in new TNQ brass. I seem to have the die set up right...crimp seems right, OAL is right, etc; but when I lower the ram (using a single stage Hornady LNL press), the bullet/case mouth stick in the die seating stem. If I use quite a bit of force it will pop out and the cartridge is still perfectly fine. The loaded cartridge fits in a LE Wilson "pistol max go gauge" Just curious if anyone has run in to this and would know a cause and solution. Hopefully I have described the problem good enough to understand. Thanks.

Sounds like over crimping, although some taper crimp dies are rough and clean cases stick. It takes very little contact with the crimp ledge to give the proper amount of "crimp" for an auto caliber. All the "crimp" should do is remove the bell, or maybe .001 more.

Welcome to THR.

I like Hornady dies especially the seater with sliding alignment sleeve. However I do not like the crimp feature using the sliding sleeve. I solved that issue by purchasing separate RCBS taper crimp dies for a couple calibers and roll crimp dies for some calibers. Works well because I seat in one press and crimp in another. I just buy the crimp dies and not the entire set.
