Hi,

I am looking for home defense ammo.

Currently, Hornady has suspended production of the Hornady 223 75gr TAP FPD.

Does anybody know if there is any major difference between the Hornady 223 75gr TAP FPD and Hornady 223 75gr Match??

I am looking at using the Hornady 223 75gr Match as my home defense ammo.

Thanks...

not much. I'm not sure if they are both the same bullet, but looking at Hornady's website, both bullets have a .214 sectional density and .395 BC. Plus muzzle velocities are very close. I bet they use the same bullet.

I don't think there is much difference. Two non bonded BTHP bullets with similar construction and velocity should have similar frag velocity ranges and penetration.

I recommend the PRVI 75 grain BTHP load. It's not quite as hot as the Hornady loads, but will still do quite nicely.

I wouldn't use match bullets for HD. They're not known for expansion or fragmentation.

The terminal ballistics experts disagree. For example, google Dr. Gary Roberts and terminal ballistics. Specifically Dr. Roberts threads at pistol-forums.com, screen name DocGKR.

The MK262 uses a sierra match king bullet. It is used for accuracy and deadliness. In all the gel tests i seen, it usually only has a cavity neck of an inch or 2 and a large cavity from the fragmentation.

non bonded match bullets with cannula frag quite well.
