I recently picked up a box of these bullets and have a question. I called Hornady asking for starting and max loads with IMR 3031 (26.6/31.4 for those who are interested), and are these bullets completely suitable for use in a 30-30? The Cust Serv rep assured me that they are and that Hornady uses this bullet for their line of 30-30 ammo. the American Whitetail ammo lists a MV of 2390 and I am wondering if this bullet will duly expand at MV's of 2100-2200? Anyone have experience with this?
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Yes they will. I was using those but have decided to step up to the 170gr RN Partition this year. I'm using LeveRevolution though.

They won't expand like they would at 2390, but the .30-30 bullets are made in a way to expand at low velocities.

You'd get more velocity if you're worried about it using the LeveRevolution powder though.

If it's Hornady #3035?

The Hornady #4 reloading manual lists the 'useful velocity' as 1,800 - 2,500 FPS.

THANK YOU Gentlemen!!! Exactly what I wanted to hear! (read)

Yes rcmodel, they are #3035, I like em!

My older brother took the largest whitetail any in the family have taken in 2007 using the 150 gr Hornady over 33.5gr of H4895 for 2,250 fps from 20"bbl. (250lb w/22.5" inside spread 10pt.) complete penetration w/quartering shot to chest.)
We recovered a perfect expanded from a 150lb doe during a 2003 hunt with a raking shot to chest, ended in flank in hip. Recovered bullet weighed 111gr. Near perfect performance. Closest thing to them are Rem. Corlokts or 170 gr Nosler Partitions. Bang for buck, the Hornady's are it.

Again, many thanks for the responses!... You all have given me mucho confidence in the outfitting of a 30AS Marlin for the upcoming hunting season here in Pa.
