Hornady LNL Case Feeder

It is just like making your own from a shot shell which is also what I did.

But, 2 weeks ago I used the electronic contact form for Hornady support and they mailed one out to me for free.

I've loaded about 1k of 9's with it and is seems to work slightly better than my shot shell version probably because it's stiffer and doesn't move as much.

Don't know if it is worth $3 + shipping (I'm thrifty :)) but it was worth it for free :D.

The Tube Funnel Drop (Intermediate) looks just like the Small one, but the upper is enlarged to accommodate the Large Tube...I just use the Small Funnel Drop and thinner wall tubing
This appears to be Hornady's fix to our shot gun shell. If you notice one slot is longer than the other. I would assume that you can put it upside down. One side for pistol and one side for rifle.

That would be my assumption...do the longer cases of rifle cartridges also tip over when they drop?

223 will bounce a little because its a light case and if you are running fast like decap sizing runs, youll get one that jumps every now and then. Longer heavier cases like anything in the 308 family and up is not an issue and neither is bigger pistol cases like 45. Ive never run 357 or 44 or anything like that, so I cant vouch for that one.

Ok here are some photos of how I keep up with some adjustments on the brass feeder.

Some as asked what I did to prevent the pusher from tilting cases and hanging. Here is photo of the pad I added to the bottom of the pusher feet to contact the cartridge lower . This is just 8-9oz leather stuck on with contact cement.

This one also shows the relief cut for the retainer spring to drop out of the way earlier.

Here is a mod I did to keep the 45acp brass from tilting and binding the wiper up. This is a 1/2 tsp measure that's is the perfect size to fit the drop tube (press fit) and brass. The top inside is beveled so brass funnels down.

Well it only took 3 days and being out on a lake in the middle of the mountains to start getting one more of the videos I took for photobucket to work!!!

Nice View! Looks like it's operating smoothly.

Blue68f100 I get the lock rings you did and the leather addition but did you machine the subplate?

No on the sub plate. All I did was move the corner back where the spring drops down. It's rounded now so it starts dropping 1/4" earlier.

What did you use a Dremel and was the case slide with the leather hitting the spring before you did that?

The only time the case hit the spring/grove was when the case tilted. When I started pushing from a lower point it never hits. If you are using a kinked spring it can cause havoc. The last shell retainer spring lasted me almost 3 yrs. I've learned when not in use I flip the spring off the shell plate or take it off.

If you have a sharp edge at the inner spring grove I would take a scrapper ( or 400-600 grit sand paper) and knock off the sharp edge.

Ok sounds good I will take a look at mine when I get home next week.

I have found a problem with the large tube for the new tube funnel drop part #398302. I have found that the cases will cant left to right to left. This cause the case to wedge in the funnel of the drop. I tried to sand it smooth but I still got cases to stick in the funnel. So what I did is I ordered threw Interstate Plastics. a piece of clear polycarbonate tube with the out side diameter of 0.750 (the same size of Hornady"s large drop tube) and the inside diameter of 0.500 (much smaller than the Hornady large tube and larger than the small tube) Now my cases are dropping perfectly. Now I had to use a tapered drill bit for the top of the tube to get the cases to drop with out hanging up on the lip.

Is this with 40? I will check that out when mine arrives. Thanks Drainsmith.

Got the parts from Hornady and switch everything over to 9mm. The stop for the drop tube works very well as no case slipped off.
I tried #1 through #4 v blocks and seems that #3 works the best. So far so good but I see that once in a while a case will not insert into shell plate properly with 9mm but 357 worked every time. The case tips towards the center of the shell plate and jams.

I played with the shuttle timing and tweaked it a bit. Ran a couple hundred empty cases through it with various handle speeds. Found a rhythm that is more than fast enough and no cases missed out of a hundred.
Those of you who load 9mm a lot how many cases do you put in the hopper? I found that if I tried putting more than a hundred or so it would jam and stop. It seems to be happening at the bottom of the hopper.

All I load is 9mm and I usually put in 150-175 because that's about what I shoot a week. About once, maybe twice in a session of that amount it plate will bind and the clutch takes over. When I hear it I just reach up and stick my finger i a case notch a rotate it backwards about 1". It frees the jam and I'm going again. It's sounds like a lot but it takes about 1 second and it only occurs as I mentioned 1-2 times per session.

I dump anywhere from 250-350 at a time. I don't count them, I just use 1.5 scoops that is equivalent to 3 qt of brass.

I will add that if you feel your stoppages are occurring too often or too easily you could try adjusting the clutch. 9mm is a little finicky sometimes because it's so small.
