Having a problem with tight primer pockets in Creedmore 6.5 brass. Can't get uniformed started. Thinking they are crimped. Has anyone had a similar prodlem?

One of the easiest steps toward precision accuracy is uniform reaming the primer pockets for diameter and depth!

Get a primer pocket reamer to solve your problem and increase accuracy!

No, they are not crimped.

Yes, they're probably snug, on purpose. I suggest a different brand primer, or a change in priming technique/tool.

Starting might also be aided by a SMALL chamfer. Keep in mind that this chamfer is THE practical pressure limit on your reloads before they leak, so go gently.

They shouldnt be so tight that you can't start a primer pocket uniformer. I do have some Hornady 308 that has crimped primer pockets.

To confirm if yours are crimped, just chamfer the outer edge of the primer pocket and see if you can insert the pocket uniformer.

Primer pocket uniformers only do depth, you don't want to enlarge the ID, just uniform/square up the depth. Reamers are for getting rid of crimped primer pockets. I have never seen crimped 6.5 brass. Tight primer pockets are a good thing.

I have not measured them but some people report that cci are just a red hair bigger than some of the other brands and give a very tight fit. Supposed to work well when others loosen up. I prefer cci and a tight fit.

If they are crimped, it will be visibly obvious. I am not aware of any crimped 6.5 creed ammo, especially Hornady, but I wouldn’t stake my home on the bet. But as I said - it will be visibly obvious.

I do concur with @Walkalong - tight pockets, especially in Hornady LRP 6.5 creed brass, are a good thing.

i think you missed what I was saying. Pocket uniformers OD should be SAAMI spec in order to match the ID of any primer pocket.

The OP said the his primer uniformer would not fit in the primer pocket. I have found that some Hornady ammo has crimper primers, If he puts a small chamfer on the lip of the pocket and now his pocket uniformer goes in, the pocket was likley crimped and problem solved.

Hmmmm curious.
I've found CCI 500s to be the easiest primers to seat.
Much easier than Winchester, tiny bit easier than S&B and Rem.
I haven't tried or ever seen Hornady primers.

Just my 2¢ worth.

No, I got it, I was correcting the fellow who said.....

You're right, if the uniformer won't fit in they might be crimped and that would need to be corrected. I haven't seen any crimped 6.5 Creedmoor, but never say never. :)
