The OP's quest for a better bullet may be in vain as the SST's record with his use is pretty good. In fact excellent! You can strive for exit holes every time and often the tougher bullets will give you far more experience tracking than Ballistic Tips or SST bullets. Add in that a quartering away shot often hits ribs on the edge causing any bullet to open a bit sooner. Were the lungs souped, the heart damaged?

ive only killed deer with the 150 .30 cal. Ive used it in my 308 06 and 300wsm. It is a very destructive bullet. Even thinner skinned then a ballistic tip or sierra. They do some damage but kill like the hand of thor.

150 grain SST at 3000 fps is my go to load in 30-06. admittedly my actual experience is pretty limited (only two deer before iowa hunting regs changed) but on both occasions i performed very well. recovered one bullet under the hide on the opposite side which still weighed around 103 grains if i remember correctly. both deer dropped within a few feet
