Hey all, fairly new rifle reloader. I have been reloading pistol for about 6mos and have my 9mm loads pretty dialed in. I have reloaded about 350 rounds for my 223, I have the OAL & powder drop dialed in

I just started reloading 223 for my AR and have a question. I have a RCBS Xdie for loading this caliber. For those not familiar it is a sizing die that maintains case length during sizing/deprime so that trimming is not needed very often (usually 3+ firings before check)

So here is the question. I have been told the Hornady Unique lube does not harm powder/primers. This puts me in a unique situation of being able to go straight from resize to prime, powder drop, etc without the trim and tumble steps normal for rifle. I can actually run the 223 thru my press in one pass just like pistol.
I have a loadmaster press and 5 die locations. #1 Xdie, #2 sizer backed out to align for priming only, #3 powder drop, #4 bullet seat, #5 crimp.

Does anyone do this? My concern is the unique possibly fouling the chamber of the gun more than anything else, I know the actual process on the press works very well.

Thoughts?

There is no case lube that harms powder or primers if used judiciously as planned.

I use RCBS spray lube, or Midway spray lube to spray about 100 .223 cases at a time in a mixing bowl.
Then stir them around by hand to distribute the lube and size them.

Whatever lube is left is wiped off my fingers on my pants while handling them.

After loading, I tumble finished ammo 15-20 minutes to get any remaining lube and fingerprints off for storage.

Been doing it that way for about 40 years not and have never had a dud round or misfire.
Heck, I haven't even blow up my tumbler yet polishing loaded rounds!!

The same way the factory's do it.

lamrith,

I think you been lucky, because you necks have not stretched... good for you I use the same die and have had neck stretch often enough to change my process.

A-Fixer: How much are they stretching for you? How did you change your process? If the Xdie is not stopping the stretch do you just process as normal then and skip the Xdie??

RCModel, Thanks! I have considered that but was unsure about the vibration and round bouncing together..
