Do you keep all of your firearms in your safe covered with gun socks, or do you only use them when you transport them?

The reason for my question is that I am currently housing my firearms in my safe all in gun socks. I notice it takes quite a bit of time to remove them from the sock though. Think it's bad enough to keep firearms in a safe if you actually need to get one in a hurry, so I keep a few handguns hidden around the house. But my question is, do you guys use your gun socks only on safe queens or do you actually store all your firearms with gun socks.

Or maybe gun socks aren't even needed? Enlighten me with your opinions on effective/practical use of gun socks, please.

Mine are in gun socks except for the House Gun. My guns sat on the self in the safe exposed for years. No issues. I just started using GS. Not sure if they are really necessary.

My guns are in the safe in gun socks except my 10/22 leaning in the corner and my .38 in the nightstand.

I use em because my safe is full beyond capacity. That way they don't get dinged up as much. They have to last for generations you know!

Mine are in socks all the time, I can't guarantee it helps prevent corrosion but at least it keep the scratches away during storage and transportation.

socks... i have more than 2 guns and my wife loves matching, she would have a fit.... not matching socks... never...

My name is Kevin and....

.......I'm a gun sock user! Since my area is humid, I've found them to help fight corrosion. Especially since I spray extra silicon on them.

Only for long storage.

I've never had an issue with any gun getting moisture whether stored in a hard case, soft case, zip pouch, sock, or in the closet.

Many of my guns are in Sack-ups or similar, when they're in a safe.

One reason is to keep them from scratching and denting each other. Just a cover and a little padding is all they really need.

Moisture is an added bonus, since the environment where I keep them is dry.

None of my "ready" guns is in a sock.

Like AB, many of my long guns are stored in socks to keep them from scratching each other as I move them around the safe.

My defensive house guns go in the safe when I leave without socks, and come out of the safe when I come home.

I also use special medium-length socks for the two halves of a breakdown shotgun, when transporting them. They provide some protection from moisture, and a lot of protection from vibration wear.

I store mine in socks...mainly to save on space and keep them from getting scratched or dinged up. I use the zippered pouches for pistols and nothing for self defense weapons.

The only gun socks I have are the free ones I get for subscriptions to Shooting Times.

I keep regular socks on the barrel of most rifles stored vertically. Keeps the dust out and I use the sock to wipe the gun down with.

I never transport long guns unless they are in a padded gun case.

That's right, I heard those stoopid things can retain moisture and rust the gun.

Is that really true? I've always heard the opposite of that, that they prevent the accumulation of moisture and prevent rust. Anybody have any real life experience with that?
