How and (most important) WHEN do you you use your gun socks?

only use for transportation.. NEVER store in them...
That's right, I heard those stoopid things can retain moisture and rust the gun.

Finally. They've arrived.
From previous threads, I've also read claims and unsupported thoughts that they do the opposite that they are designed for, but all evidence to the contrary. I'm sure someone in a humid climate might chime in and claim that their gun rusted when it was stored in one of these. We'll see, but you'd never be able to prove that the gun rusted because of the sock it was stored in.

The info from the horse's mouth...
Silicone-treated, polyester/acrylic gun socks give valuable firearms protection against rust, dirt and scratches. The fabric won't hold moisture, making these gun socks ideal for year-round storage.

...and that has been my experience for many years now. If my guns develop so much as a spec of rust while in their socks, I'll be the first to post about it.

Socks wic moisture AWAY from the feet, then dissipates the moisture through evaporation.

Socks don't make your feet stink, sweat and bacteria do. But guns don't sweat so it doesnt really matter.

Tell that to my Yugo Mauser when it takes a nice sun bath.
Or to my rifles when I take them from a nice 73 degree AC house out to 95 degree heat with 70% humidity lol

I keep the guns in my safe in socks, however I keep defensive weapons at the ready out of socks at handy locations. Essentially my hunting weapons are socked and locked away while my carry handgun, my home shotgun, and my 22 are just kept oiled and in their respective places.

I keep all of my guns in padded cases. I can just grab them and throw them in the car if I want to shoot some or if SHTF. Also, relatively quick access... just unzip, shoulder and fire.
Of course, no small children here. Youngest person in my house is 16, and my sister rarely enters my room for any reason.

I use my padded cases and whatnot for transport, but since my gun safe is not overpopulated, and since my safe is in a dry, nice climate part of my house, I don't bother storing them in socks or cases. Never had a problem, even when my guns we kept in the corner of my closet without the safe or cases.

My guns get thoroughly cleaned after being shot. At any moment in time, they are either clean or being fired. ;) I just stick it back in the safe after cleaning.

Man, I've heard of people keeping a gun in the sock drawer, but never actually inside of their socks!! :D

Its disturbing what some people will do with their guns and underwear. :uhoh:

guess I should put my previous comment into context.. i live in ALabama... lots of humidity... lost of temperature changes.. lots of rust if you leave a gun in a soft case...

When my feet are cold.

WHEN do you you use your gun socks?

Only when my feet are cold..:neener:

I use them when they are stored in the safe but I depend on a Goldenrod to keep the moisture down. Plus all are well maintained. By themselves I don't see them keeping the firearms rust free. Fine for scratch es though.

Gun socks are a great investment, given their relative costs when compared with the cost of the guns they are designed to protect. I store all of the guns that go into my safe inside gun socks and never fear about their overall condition when I take them out. It's as close to a no-brainer as you can get, IMO.
