how can I date my rifle

I have a rimfire .22 rifle that was passed down from my grandfather. I can't seem to get a reliable date on it's manufacture. Its a Remington single shot, has an octagonal barrel, serial number looks like J108447. After the serial is stamped 22 LR then an oval shape. On the top of the barrel and behind the hammer is stamped REMMINGTON ARMS CO. ILION, N.Y.U.S.A.

Call Remington. With a serial number, they'll tell you the mfg date and other things you may want to know.
