Revolverman:
The secret, awful truth about all shooting -- regardless of the particular weapon -- is that it is a chore. It's loud (to the point of permanent hearing loss with no protection), dirty (heavy-metal toxic, in fact), expensive, and -- if you do it long enough at a stretch -- fatiguing to the muscles. There's the lengthy clean-up procedure, the initial expenditure of investment capital (buying the gun), the cost of ranges (for the city-bound) and ammo. And some have suggested that our sport can be dangerous if participated in carelessly.
Is it worth it? Need you ask?
Is it necessary? Same answer.
But do I sometimes derive as much pleasure out of non-live fire play as I do out of a day at the range? You bet. Field stripping them, polishing them, tinkering with them, dry-firing them (with all suitable precautions) or even simply fondling them... God help me, I love it all.
I believe if you think about it, you'll find the same is true of your Glocks, but maybe less pronounced.
