Well, I'm sitting in the loo right now, so I'd literally be caught with my pants down. But I'm on the third floor of my residence, so hopefully I'd be able to reach the gun readily accessible in the nearest bedroom if I hear any sort of break-in coming from downstairs.
I use the Ruger as my "desk gun." It's nice to know that if my CCW or other is on the third floor, and I'm working in my office which is on the first floor, the Vaquero .45 is in the desk and a second or two away.
As often as I'm online I just think it makes sense. I also keep one of my Surefire lights in the drawer as well.
Any one else have a dedicate desk / computer use / home theater / room-specific gun or guns?
I like the idea that if I'm in a room or on any of the floors of my place a handgun (if not being carried) is close by. Oh, I also keep flashlights with them.
Awake and dressed: on the hip. Awake, but not dressed: within the same room (there are at least two loaded guns, and sometimes more, and one frequently gets moved out of the bedroom when I move out for the day.
Asleep: bedside, usually on the floor beneath my side of the bed, or on the bedside table.
My GP 100 is right within easy reach in front of my computer (empty) . . . there are two speed-loaders on the desk, filled with snap-caps, so I can safely practice reloads here. The live ammo is across the room, including two speed-loaders, one with .38 and one with .357, so I'm seconds away from being armed.
I've got one right next to my computer mouse. I have a 12 gauge within about 6 feet. I live in a small studio apartment so none of my guns are very far from me.
Well, right now I'm cleaning some of the collection, but assuming the OP was asking how far it would be normally. Theyre usually close enough if I need one, unless I'm in the shower, then its more than an arms length.
Well, I'm sitting here on the couch with my laptop watching the local weather, with a Ruger SP101 .357, and my Colt Cobra .38 special inches from me on the couch.
