I have a 6" Ruger GP100 that I'd like to scope up for deer hunting. I know Ruger has models that can except scope rings like what they have on their Ranch rifles. My GP is an older model so I can't do it that way.

Are there special "rings" I can purchase or do I have to modify the gun itself?

And what would be a good choice for a scope? How about a red dot type?

i had mine drilled and tapped by a smith, seems like the the only way to get a solid mount to me. i used weigand mounts and a ultradot red dot scope. you would think that thing is a rifle out to 75 yds. i think i saw some b-square mounts that you had to remove the front and rear sights for, but not drill if you wanted to try that route.

Nevermind. I stepped out my longest shot from my stand (for handgunning I'm willing to take) and iron sights are more than adaquate.

Hell, I'm not that bad of a shot!:D
