speedloader in pocket, or in a nylon belt pouch that holds two of them (nobody knows what the pouch is, and everyone seems to have crap on their belts anyway).
I like the speed strip, Bianchi or generic. IHL, through Dillion Precision has a wallet that goes on the belt to hold them, or loose ammo, but comes only in black. Can always throw a strip in the pocket. If I have time to reload though, I'm in serious doody.
I often carry different loads, e.g. snake load for hiking, defense load for when I get back into town. For that, a speed strip would be better than a speedloader, I think, since I just need a place to store different rounds.
It's been many years since I CCW'd a revolver, but back when I did it was a speedloader in a belt-pouch and/or a Speed Strip (or two) in the pocket as dress dictated.
I was very glad to see someone go back into production with new Speed Strips, and in different sizes/calibers, even though I don't carry a revolver anymore. I ordered a few just on principle.
I like to carry 5 spare rounds in a second gun, at the moment a S&W 37-2 Airweight, as its faster to draw it than to reload my SP101 with any method I have ever tried. I just got myself a 3" SP101 to go with my 2 1/4" DAO, so I expect now I'll be carrying a pair of SP101s instead of a SP and a J-frame.
I do carry spare ammo too though, a single speed loader in a belt pouch behind my belt gun, and a speed strip or two in my jeans watch pocket.
I don't have any problem carrying the DAO SP101 in my pocket, so I suppose I could move the J-frame to my ankle and carry three revolvers, but I doubt that will happen often if at all.
Lately, speed strips seem easier. I really don't think reloading in the open with a speedloader is much more than suicide and if I have to make a load behind cover, the strips will work. If I don't have time, I can always make a New York reload with my NAA mini last resort.
The chances I'd want a tactical reload are higher IMHO than that I'd shoot dry and want a full reload. The speed strips will work for this, speed loaders not so much.
I keep my *name of gun removed for fear of being ostracized* in my glovebox (no CWP yet), and an HKS #10A speedloader in my pocket. My theory being, if a situation develops and i need to reload the gun, I aught to have the reload on my person in case im separated from the vehicle.
I like the safariland speed loaders, but they're a bit bulky for office attire, so I keep a pair of speed strips on me. If I'm not at work, both. And a strip full of shot when I take my dogs to the creek for a swim, just in case any moccasin, rattler, crackhead, or copperhead should try to crash our party.
A "New York reload" refers to producing a second firearm when the first runs dry, rather than reloading the empty. I've heard other terms, 'black powder speedloader", etc, but "new york reload" seems to be the most commonly recognized.
I'll not buy another Safariland comp one. I had one and it broke in less than a year of carry and wouldn't release, had to bust it with a hammer to get the rounds out of it. Those things are fragile and complicated. I am back to HKS now if I wanna carry a speedloader.
