How does one REDUCE the capacity of a magazine?

If your in Jersey the mags have to be welded to 15 or fewer rounds to be legal. The catcher though is that unconverted magazines aren't allowed into the state, so buying hi-caps at a gun show then bringing them home with the intention of converting them is a big no-no.

The other side of this issue is if you buy one of those AR-15 or AK mags that looks like a 30 rounder, but only holds 10 or 15, buy a couple true 10 rounders for the range. Why you may ask? Because you'll spend 75% of your range time explaining to every Billy, Bob, Range Officer Joe, lil Bubba, and maybe even that nervous police officer over there that they only hold the legal limit and they are legal. It's a pain in the butt that isn't worth it.

I put a small piece of lath under the spring in the mag. of my 2A so I can use it deer hunting so it will hold 10 and not 12.

The laws are much more different regarding hunting and NJ's mag ban.

Rom? Rut-roh! :)

So that's why some folks I know were prosecuted ! Seems the owners of old Stevens/Mossberg/Itheca et al .22RF rifles with with tube mags have become "dangerous felons" in the eyes of the NJAG ! Depending upon Long or Long Rifle anywhere from 17 to 22 rounds can be loaded into these long barreled/FL mag beauties !
Note that the magazine ban (yep, even fixed tube magazines) only applies to semi-automatic rifles here in the Great Garden State. Bolt-action, pumps, and lever-actions can have a tube magazine as long as you'd like. Something like a Henry with a 17-round mag is just fine... a Marlin 60 with a 17-round mag is a death sentence to your RKBA.

This is easy.

Buy ANY magazine from California and you're good to go (10 round maximum and there are no modification worries).

This may sound funny, but it is the simplest, safest way to be in full compliance.
