I am wondering how fast some of you guys are at shucking your shotguns. At our last 3 gun match here in Utah, there was a string where we had 7 targets ( round poppers). You started loaded, on safe, off shoulder, and at the sound of the buzzer, you had to hit the 7 targets one time. I did this in 3.55 seconds, and I am wondering how that compares to a lot of you out there with lots of years in 3 gunning.
thanks

John, I should have brought my 870 out and just gotten a time on that string. I ran it in 2.8 something with the Saiga.

When doing this was very important to me, I could do this drill in under 5 seconds, sometimes under 4, I'm told.

Weapon down, round chambered, safety on. Mount and fire 5 shots on 5 targets at 15-25 yards. Ammo was generic Winchester 00, 9 pellets each.Hits on tombstone targets ran over 90%.

Our qualifier was similar, but the weapon was loaded with 4 rounds, the fifth "Combat Loaded" through the ejection port. Time ran about 6-7 seconds.

Add one second or so for doing it LH.

Weapon was issue "Riot" 870, no tweaks or addons.

If I worked at it and used one of my "Serious" 870s, I'm sure I could beat those times, even at my age and decreptitude. But for the times, it was good enough to get me HOA a few times at LEO 3 gun.

Corriea and others here, I'm sure, can beat these handily. I'm but moderately talented, and those more gifted can do better.

At the PSA Shootout this Spring, the Shotgun Side Match consisted of 5 poppers, 3 large, 2 small, spread out about 15 yds wide and 11-15 yards down range. Start position was gun on shoulder and muzzel down on a table. Winning pump time was 1.90 seconds. Low gun adds about .2 seconds compared to this start. Add two more targets @ .35 and you would have a time of about 2.8 sec. Winning Auto time was 1.42.

John, the scores were posted today.

Lets just say that our shotgun times were not fast enough to make up for our rifle shooting. :D

One reason I ask is because I can "think" I'm fast, but then you get an out of towner that smokes you so bad you are standing there with thumb up keester, and so I wanted some feedback on what others have seen and done themselves.

Slower than Correia , Denny's, Dave's, Al's, Jeff White's...etc., I'm sure.
I have a real good time time tho'. :D

Honest, I have no idea. I'm not a 3 gunner , tho I have participated along with some other disciplines/ COFs.

I'm probably slower than I used to be. Never had a problem with shooting doubles ( clay games or fowl). I competed in skeet, 5 stand, and sporting clays, sharpened my skills for game, and SD. I'm not a trap shooter, though I can "get by" if someone reminds me of the hold points ( and I remember to use the tight choke and not the open one...btdt).

I spent a lot of time with a SG, it's like an extension of me. So familar like pointing a finger. This IMO is very important , regardless of what disipline one participates in--because heaven forbid one ever has to use a SG in an defensive situation, but the repetition, muscle memory,...etc., "training" if you will under stress may be what keeps one alive. NOT the brand of gun, NOT the type of platform, NOT the brand of shells, NOT the gizmos and gadgets hanging off or attached to, NOT scores, or times. NOT what the bbl or choke is marked.

Repetition becomes faith-faith becomes habit. That is what will determine survival in a serious situation.

I have a good time with serious fun, if they give style points it's more fun. I fall "real nice" as one RO/SO said, I miss "purty" as he said later, and when the ammo was bad that was contributed for the shoot by a ammo company, I " cheat real good" I'm the guy whom shucked the action open, handed SG to SO pulled my 1911 and went for steel 10-30 yds downrange. The rules said to "do what it takes to survive" nothing said ' I had to stay with a SG and bad ammo". :D
