Specifically, the G30.
I'm considering one as an "all purpose" pistol, main CCW, home defense, SHTF and woods gun for hiking etc.

thanks

I've owned one of everything GLOCK makes and recently got the MOD 17 4th Gen pistol which is all I shall ever need. If 17 rounds of +P Gold Dots will not take the day then nothing ever will.

The Mod 30 mentioned had some twiches early on but I believe those are long gone by now.

Good luck in your choice.

I have the G21 SF and it does everything I need, but then I live in Illinois and we don't do CCW.

I have had my Glock 21 since they became available (1991? definitely 1st gen.) The only problem I have ever had with it I experienced this last summer. The shell after firing would not eject, apparently the brass got too hot sitting in the sun prior to firing. So, already expanded metal gets more expanded after firing...stuck case.

Some more info: I've never had a malfunction in my G30. It's accurate and fun to shoot. It's a big, thick gun, though. If you're a skinny lad you might CCW it fine. I'm... not. :D

I prefer to pocket carry smaller pistols. But for everything else the G30 is good to go. I have night sights on mine and it's my primary bedside gun.

They are great, the .45 bored barrels have a reputation for the best accuracy of the Glock models, possibly because they are made on different machinery and in smaller numbers than the other bore sizes.

I'd like a 30 or 30SF sometime in the future, they seem like really neat guns.

I have a few Glocks chambered in 45. I like the 21sf the best but the 30 does make a good carry gun. Both are accurate and soft shooters.

I've shot a Glock 21 a couple of times. It was a joy to shoot. I haven't shot a 30, but I've held them, and they are definitely thick. The 36 "slimline" is still about as thick as a G26.

I think at this point if I were to get a non-1911 .45 it would be the 21.

I have about 4-5K rounds through my Glock 21SF without a single problem.
The only complaint I here about the 45acp Glocks is that they are too thick/fat for their hands. I don't have a problem with them, but I would recommend handling both the standard frame and short frame (SF) models before I bought one.

I use to own a Glock 30SF and it was also reliable, but I sold it in order to get a smaller pistol for a back up gun. I bought my father a G36 and it has been reliable thus far.

I've had good luck with my 21. I doubt I'd ever sell it.

Last time I took it out, I set up an empty .308 brass on top of a log, and shot it from 14 yards away, first try. Then I repeated it with a 12 gauge shotgun shell.

The single malfunction it's had was a stove pipe the first time a lady friend shot it.

I noticed that the rifling on my friend's G19 is more aggressive-looking than on my pistol. I mean, side-by-side, the inside of my .45 barrel looks almost round, where the 9mm looks more like a star.

G36 has been flawless so far. 600+ rounds. 6 different types/brands of ammo.
Pretty darn accurate also.

G30 is surprisingly accurate but it is much wider than other Glock models with fatter grip. I prefer G27 as my all purpose gun with the same capacity and 15 round full size magazine back up magazines.

If you don't mind the grip and the weight, go for it.

I've shot a G21 before, and shot it better than my 9mm glocks. The recoil was very mild and the accuracy was superb.

I've had a G30 for a few years now. It is thicker than I would like it to be but the gun has been accurate and very reliable. I don't carry it as much as my 1911 or CZ-85 Combat but with the right clothes it can CCW pretty well. I use mine mainly as a home defense weapon now. I use a Fobos Tilt paddle holster or a fanny pack to carry it.

I did purchase a Fire Dragon match barrel so I could shoot my lead reloads from it. It is a bit more accurate than the stock barrel but you have to watch the reloading dimensions because the chamber is tighter and won't feed as readily as the stock barrel. It also has to be hand fitted to the gun so it requires a little bit of mechanical skills to get it too work. Nothing that a dremel and or fine India stones couldn't take care of.

My G36 has been awesome thus far. Carries very well concealed in a paddle holster or (if uncocked) in the small of my back. No hiccups or stovepipes. Slim, light, accurate, plenty o' oomph to get the job done.

You asked for an honest opinion. I had one but was not very thrilled with it and sold it. Once I sorted out magazines and JHP bullet shapes that would feed in it, it was reliable. My main objection for CCW was its excessive "chunkiness," both in the grip and slide.

I use a G30 for my EDC. I find it light weight and easy to conceal. I use an AKJ Concealco holster and it holds it tight against you. It hasn't had any problems feeding and is easier to conceal than an XD 45 Compact.

Of the numerous Glocks I own (19, 21SF, 23, 26, 29, 30), the G30 is my favorite Glock. I bought the G30 before the G21SF, so loving the G30 I thought I'd love the G21SF also, but for some reason... just never took to the 21SF... it doesn't feel nearly as good in my hand as the G30 does.

The G30 is a chunky gun, but that doesn't bother me in the least. It is ultra comfortable to shoot, fills the hand quite fully so as to disperse recoil throughout the entirety of your hand, accuracy is scary good, reliability is tops. 11 rounds of .45ACP HST in a gun this small and this nice to shoot makes for a very special gem-of-a-gun. A superb carry gun. I really like the G30!

good guns. although not very ergonomic for small hands. (as long as glock is not longer making out spec frame rails on their g21sf/g30sf's.)

g36's are hit or miss for reliability. one guy out in Cali sued glock and won because they couldn't fix his jamming g36, & also wouldn't replace it.

never found a polymer 45 i really liked. i've owned glocks, xd, and m&p's. the 1911 is the best platform for that caliber.

Might as well chime in. I've had a G-21 since 2003. It was definitely trouble when it was new. After the replacement #4652-1 trigger bar was installed all of the problems with it suddenly disappeared. It's been flawless ever since! (18,000 rounds) And, yeah, it's accurate.
