How good are you telling if someone's carrying, or do others notice you're carrying?

i've been carrying everyday for the last two years. my employees know that i have a CHL. but almost all don't believe that i'm carrying. it's a myth that i carry. which is good both ways. i have a deterrent of possibly carrying. but no one will mugg me for something they don't know exists. and know one can say i pointed it at them, because they don't know what it looks like. and when the BG comes, he will be surprised.

I would really like to tell you guys more but heck if anyone reading this altered their behavior due to training techniques it would make it harder for people like me who are super vigilant to tell. Hope you enjoyed!

Javelin, with you up here in my neck of the woods I'm going to have to be extra stealthy. ;)

My favorite one happened the other day. A sherriff who got busted for stealing Narco evidence out of the vault, I caught concealing a Glock in a paddle holster. I pointed out that fellons arent allowed to carry, and he rushed out of the sandwich shop. Still wondering if I should have turned him in.

Nope... Nowhere in the 2nd Amendment does it say that felons cannot bear arms.

I don't even notice which is true of most people I think unless somebody is acting crazy. The dead giveaway are belts. Gun people often wear heavy belts to support their weapon.

I've only been "made" once, and that was when I was on vacation in Virginia and, due to being almost entirely out of clean clothes, I was wearing a t-shirt and shorts combination I wouldn't ordinarily wear. A shop owner asked if that was a gun on my side, and I told him yes, and that I had a permit. He asked to see it, because he'd been considering getting one himself, and I told him it was an Arizona permit that was honored in Virginia. After that I tightened my belt to keep it concealed better. Normally getting spotted is not an issue because my gun fits so well that I forget it's there. I even fell asleep with it on this morning. As a result, I don't have any of the telling signs that can indicate to an observer that I have a gun.

I've never spotted anyone else carrying.

no, but also nowhere does it say a dope-stealing scumbag who used his uniform in the furtherance of a felony SHOULD be able to carry either. personally, I find crime committed by those tasked with fighting crime to be the worst kind of crime, and in no way would i support carry by a former law officer who got caught wit his hand in the cookie jar. I'm betting that evidence he stole wasn't to help him with a toothache...... and we all knoow most drug dealers are the best kinds of people.....

In fact, what it does say is that the right to bear arms SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED. It does not allow for ANY exceptions to that. Once you start allowing exceptions to this, you are going down that slippery slope towards gun banning and confiscation. The cop very well might be a dirt bag for what he did, but I will support his 2nd Amendment rights to carry whatever and whenever he wants, just like any other person. This is a natural born right of all free men everywhere and it cannot be legally taken away from us.

I sometimes notice people carrying, but only once have I mentioned to the person that he might want to choose a different clothing choice when he is carrying due to the fact that his current choice allowed for it to print quite noticeably. He was wearing a light colored polo shirt that was not all that thick and it was pretty obvious.

When I'm in NYC, I carry and I have stood on the sidewalk talking to cops who were directing traffic during the holidays and they didn't notice.

I pocket carry, have for many years, and I have never been "made" The thing to remember is that very few people are looking at you, and if they do, all they should see is YOU. I know that some are self concious about carrying, and to get past that just carry at all times and it will become second nature. As was mentioned previously, carry in a secure manner and don't fidget with the gun.

To the best of my knowledge, the only person who ever made me was a 6 year old on a playground.

He asked if I was a policeman (I'm in the Army, with requisite high-and-tight haircut).

I've seen some folks who I was pretty sure were carrying, but I wasn't absolutely sure as they weren't printing. It's really just kind of a sense you have of someone...

That, and when you're at Cabelas and you see all these middle aged dudes walking around with slightly baggy pants and button down shirts that are a little too long at the waist ;)

I did have an experience in a coffee shop where there were apparently at least 3 of us carrying concealed and none of us knew it. One of the three mentioned on another gun forum about having been sitting in a certain coffee shop all day... the other two of us were on the same forum at the same time. Kind of funny. I'm pretty sure I know who at least one of the other guys was, but I never said anything...

As far as I can tell my CCW is concealed enough for the general public, someone like-minded or a LEO could probably make me though.

As far as spotting other CCW there are some pretty major tells that newer (and possibly older) carriers do such as;

Adjust their gun - biggest 1

When they walk their carry hand stays closer to the body then the other hand) kind of 'guarding' their gun

When they walk take shorter steps on the side of their gun (believe it or not)

Seem to purposefully switch items they are carrying to their off-hand (little
harder to notice)

These are just the one's I can remember off the top of my head, but I'm still a fairly new carrier myself (about a year).

All the signs, (motions and movements) don't do any good if the person is trained not to make them. A properly worn firearm won't have to be messed with.

Wait, we've revived a 3 year old thread about concealment to discuss whether the 2A applies to felons? Does not compute.
