Do you ever "make" someone carrying? Let's experiment.

When I first started carrying I was always paranoid someone would see I was carrying and would start trouble.

Have you ever seen or heard about someone starting trouble over seeing somebody carrying a gun? Not being critical here, just wondering.

If its someone I know and they print their piece, I grab right on to it (if its in appropriate setting) and pull it all out sorts so they have to go redress. They hate to see me coming, but it has made people close to me carry a lot more concealed.
If you did that to me you'd be in for a serious encounter. I don't play those games with firearms.

Grabbing for anyone's firearm is unbelievably unsafe and not smart.

As a matter of fact I sprained my buddy's arm because decided to do that crap as a joke, and went for my Beretta in the Serpa. I didn't know it was him at first.

Sold me on the retention though.

Frankly I just don't get this. I carry, I mind my own business, I expect others to do the same. Anyone grabbing for my sidearm is in for a world of hurt as he is messing with me and my body, not a wise thing to be doing.

I don't go sneaking around Wal-Mart or any other stores playing super dude making note whos carring a sidearm and whos not. As noted, I mind my own business.

I also do not go around pointing out OMG he's got a weapon either.

I also do not go around parking lots checking who's parked wrong or who has bald tires.

I was around some Secret Service agents (I cannot disclose where) who were standing there, hands crossed in front of them, long raincoats on, indoors, earbud, raincoat kind of puffed out on one side, like something long was under there.

Let's just say, I am positive they had more than just a handgun on them. :uhoh:
maybe they were just happy to see you.

The entire premise of this thread is based in the assumption that being seen with a weapon is somehow “wrong” akin to being seen naked.

As the OP I can tell you without question you are 100% WRONG. YOU may take it that way but the basis of the question is merely to raise awareness. Some people are paranoid about carrying and if they are more aware of the people around them and if they see just how rare it is to see someone carrying they might feel more at ease. For those they do spot, maybe they can learn WHY they were spotted and they can improve their own carry techniques. I've made several people carrying. I didn't feel they were doing something wrong, in fact it made me feel good to know another person was exercising their God given right too. So its not likely I would start a thread implying it was wrong.

If someone wants to let their own prejudice turn it into something else, there isn't much I can do about that.

Making friends whom you KNOW carries weapon isn't the same thing as making a stranger you see on the street don't you think?

I'd say a clear view of half a handgun is a clear view of half a handgun. I was never looking for it, he was careless. Might also be why he wrecked a car a year the last few years of his life. :banghead:

I agree, even joking about doing it is bad enough, if this guy actually does that, he might end up where he didn't expect to be ending up and in a very short time (as in, before he knew what happened)!

I can say that I might have seen one person in the past five years who might have had a gun in a side hip holster. I really don't think most people notice such things, as I know I don't.

I never heard of the expression either and I certainly would NEVER touch a weapon that is someone else's without their permission or their actually HANDING IT to me!:cuss:

I purposly swept my coat back just a little "too far" at the gas station late the other night when I retrieved my wallet. There was car full of rough looking Mexicans parked near by who seemed to be taking a little too much interest in my wife sitting alone in the car. There were six of them and two of us and I made it a point to be "made".

I travel a lot for work (which unfortunately means I can't carry most of the time) but I am still aware of my surroundings.

Checking out of my hotel the other day I notice another guest at the counter with his untucked shirt caught on his 1911 holstered IWB at a 5 o'clock position. I walked up to him (in his view, definitely wouldn't come up behind him) and leaned in and told him his weapon wasn't concealed. He quickly fixed his shirt and then turned away. I'm not sure if he was overly embarrassed by the situation, but I would have at least said thank you or given a nod if I was in his situation.

A while back I was getting gas and a woman in a pantsuit at the next pump had leaned over and her jacket became caught on her Glock (holstered OWB, 3 o'clock). When I caught her attention I motioned with my shirt a tugging motion on my strong side. She looked down, adjusted her jacket and said thanks. As she turned to get in her car, she had a badge on the waist of her pants.

Other than those occasions, I've never made anyone for certain. Some, I assume they are carrying based on clothing or mannerisms, but I'm sure there are a lot of people that are carrying and just doing a good job of hiding it (as they should).

Ive never noticed anyone looking my way, but I've been carrying long enough that I dont adjust or mess with my weapon while in public. Usually just jeans or shorts with a long polo or button-up shirt untucked over a P228 carried IWB. It seems I'm blending in ;)

I carry my Glock 22. A lot of times when I wear just a t-shirt, it easily silhouettes itself. Frankly, I'm not real concerned if people know that I have a gun. I carry concealed so that I don't get harassed while I'm carrying, however, I feel that the people who do see I have a gun are highly unlikely to start anything with me

I'm sorry but I just can't agree with the thinking of both of these. In my state it would be legally defined as flourishing a deadly weapon. I guess it depends what your position is on open carry.

:what: Your kidding right?

This thread is worthless without PICTURES!!!

I say we all take pics with our new-fangled "Smart Phones" the next time we bust someone at Wally World.

I used this tactic one time in a parking lot as a guy was coming at me yelling obscenities at me and my wife. Things quited down immediately, I was not charged, nor held, or questioned, even tho security saw everything that happened. Security did give me a nod of the head and a thumbs up and I went on my way. To the best of my knowledge the other "gentleman" returned to his car and left.

I never did know what caused all this, maybe nothing more than a case of mistaken identity. However I wasn't going to just stand there and take a beating.

But then I live in Indiana, and its not a requirement to carry concealed.

I think I made a guy in the grocery store this morning--like usual you can't be sure.

Dress is what clued me in, as usual. This was a well-kempt man in his 40s or 50s wearing (neat) cargo pants and an untucked loose (clean) button-down shirt--not the usual attire for someone in his age range. He had something printing lightly around 4:00 if you were looking for it, but not obviously printing.

Got me. :neener:

Tennessee is an open carry state so I see all kinds of carry methods in various states of embellishment. I don't give it much of a second thought. It might code me up notch for a minute or two.

Just as likely to see a neighbor open carrying in Home Depot.

I may have made someone once but I agree with those who said that it's either few people carry or they're well concealed. It's probably both.

Carrying a concealed handgun is not as easy as it looks! I'm always turning around, looking in mirrors and asking my wife "does this ass my my gun look big?"

I'm finding it very difficult to carry. I thought the few extra pounds (okay, the few extra TENS of pounds) would make it easy but that just makes it worse. There are two guns I feel I have 100% success concealing. One is a Kahr P9 on an elastic belly band. The upside is unless you pat me down, you will not see it. The downside is extremely slow into action. The other is my new SW Bodyguard .380. I can carry that in my jacket pocket easily. The downside there is inferior caliber (but better than nothing) and no summer solution.
