My guns aren't nearby, so I'll have to settle for shooting a bit at the South Philly indoor range, and that won't even be on the 4th :(

I am esp. pleased with GeekWithA45's plan for a 4th of July picnic shooting range:

Since I can't be at the family reunion I usually get to in Tennessee (New Market, TN, if that means anything to anyone reading), I've asked my dad to bring some firecrackers and such, and to supervise their safe deployment. I've sent him a detailed list of precautions and ideas -- for instance, to bring at least 5 2-liter bottles for wetting the grass surrounding Ye Stump of Fyrecrackirs, soaking the debris, and then splashing the whole danger zone after. I wasn't sure if he'd bow to the likely pressure from overcautious parents, but he's agreed to be the Green Man this year ;)

Will anyone be off shooting automatics, lifting anvils with a few ounces of Unique, firing 21-gun salutes?

EDIT / p.s.: Oh, yes, and HAPPY FOURTH well in advance ;) For all the things about which I'm unhappy when it comes to the state of this country, I am happy with the United States in large part *because* it invites conditional, contingent, malcontent contentedness rather than blind attachment. And it beats any alternatives of which I am aware, a happy thing in itslef ;)

HAHA after your title I figured it would be followed up with "You know your a redneck when.."

I think I will put the guns away and enjoy the fireworks and maybe drink a beer (or something alcoholic)... As I have not been in the States for a 4th of July for sooo long due to Uncle Sams itinerary. I bought a nice 500g "BIG DADDY" firework ima set off and hopefully not blow myself up with! haha :D

Happy 4th!

Guns will be put up, go to the County Fairgrounds for big fireworks display and thank God I was born in this Country

I'm stuck working the night of the 4th, per usual, so no plans here. On the upside however, we put on a heck of a fireworks show down at the office.

We usually just do a 21 gun salute with the shotguns every year to celebrate our freedom to do so. As fas as a range trip, i'm actually working all day on the 4th so I doubt it.

Shooting on a wednesday? Not around here. I'm not going to those greedy rip off indoor ranges around here and the outdoor range I visit is only open on weekends.

Sounds like I'm going to pop some firecrackers and go to sleep.

Though, I wish there were laws allowing the discharge of a firearm within city limits if blanks are used. That would be sweet. I'd get some east german 7.62x39mm blanks and have a great time.

That would be celebrating the 4th the right way, considering we light up fireworks to represent the instruments of war.

Fireworks followed by more fireworks followed by a

Known to rattle windows and set off car alarms :D

It's been very dry here, so the fireworks are out this year unless we get some more rain by then. Otherwise, I hope to get in some target practice, hopefully getting my niece (the only one shooting yet) to join me. With any luck I can also get a newbie to join in. Perhaps that should be my goal for the 4th, getting somebody new to the game. I also plan to finish David McCullough's 1776 on Wednesday. I think that would be appropriate.

A day off in the middle of the week? Hmmm. That'll probably require a range trip at least for a few hours in the morning. Afternoon: Cookout with the family and some friends. Evening: Go the stadium for fireworks.

i MIGHT go to ala. and get some fireworks. maybe not. it's been kinda dry around here.:banghead:

weather permitting, i'll be out on the backyard range on the fourth.:D

with all the "use state approved firework" commercials they're airing in CA, I will probably spend the day walking around with empty guns wishing I had the freedom to shoot them...

In reality though, the wife and I will be with some friends lighting snakes and sparklers, as those are the official state approved fireworks :barf:

Firecrackers are illegal here--the serfs of Illinois may not engage in ritualized revolutionary activity--they may attend the state-sponsered display (usually) put on by firemen of questionable sobriety.

I've nothing against tipsy firemen or municiple pyrotechnics per say.
I'll go and watch with the kids. Otherwise I'll be lighting those snake pellets and using 'safe and sane' fireworks.

That, and waste a shameful amount of .06 through my garands because I can't have any firecrackers.

Oh, I'll have firecrackers and illegal fireworks, too--whom I kidding!

Rule No. 57 will come into play.

I celebrated my rights as an American by buying a blued, 4in, 29-3 Smith revolver. I have been searching for one a while. Came acroos one, finally, and decided to inivest my $500 in it.

God Bless America. This is the country I love for the freedoms, Rights, and hard-earned privileges for which our currnet soliders, past soldiers, and future soldiers fight to keep us free from tyranny and oppresion.

One reads of al the problems in China, Russia, South America, Africa, and one needs to remember inspite of all the cheap goods coming from those places, Americans live free, and those people do not.

I'll start with a range trip, do some shopping, and then take the wife out to dinner. I plan to carry openly the entire day. What better way to celebrate?

I've got my own personal shooting range on my property, I'm way out in the mountains, far from the city. I'll definitely be capping off some rounds on Wednsday.:D

A friend of mine has a few "dragon breath" shotgun shells. we're going to shoot those off as well as a night shoot with tracers.
