How is the Remington 700 BDL?

I've had one for thirty five years and really like it. I replaced the rear sight with a Lyman peep sight.

It's one of the classic hunter's rifles. Great trigger (once adjusted right), good barrel, good feel to the stock, lasts forever. You can't go wrong with one.

The last 700 I had was a BDL-DM in 7mm-08. It was, to say the least, the most dissapointing rifle I ever bought. I bought it new from Wal-Mart because it was gorgeous. Engraved receiver, jeweled bolt, beautiful stock checkering, butter smooth action etc. The problem was the bolt would not close completely on a live round. The gun was not dirty as I had thoroughly cleaned it before going to shoot. I don't send guns back so after polishing the chamber and working the bolt exhaustively with very fine valve grinding compound on the lugs,it finally would chamber a round. The biggest disapointment was the terrible groups. I traded it for a S&W 686 at a loss. Let me say that I have been VERY happy with other 700s that I've owned.

Good rifle - lots of caliber choices if your right handed -- or look for a BDL used, many older ones had irons.
