My daughter, 15, is a decent shot, although she doesn't really go out of her way to shoot. My nephew, Austin, on the other hand, that will shoot anytime he can. Today Austin, my daughter, and another nephew were watching me reload some ammo for my .41 magnum. Austin said he wanted to shoot my Ruger Blackhawk. I told him to watch me shoot it first. I figured he would see the recoil and decide not to shoot. He is only 11 years old. I shot and it did not daunt him a bit. So I put a target at 15 yards and let him shoot. He hit 1/2 below the bullseye! Then I asked if he was okay, and he said yes. He asked me if he could shoot it again! So I set a pop can at 15 yards, and he nailed it dead center. I couldn't believe that an eleven year old boy could concentrate and hold on through all that recoil. Especially a second time. He didn't even blink an eye. Tickled me to death. :D

Anyone else have kids around that like to shoot?

I'm hoping my son will enjoy shooting.
He's only 2 now but I already got him a Colt 1911 in 45ACP and Ruger 10/22.
I also have a Cricket 22lr rifle on order for him:)

I've got two sons, ages 15 and 22. Both love to hunt and shoot. I'm so proud of that! It's also nice to know that my collection will be cared for when I'm gone.

I've got 6 kids and 4 really enjoy shooting. The other 2 (both girls) WILL shoot but don't really enjoy it all that much.

My oldest son and his wife both like to shoot (although he is more the real hobbyist than she is). My daughter won't touch one (I'm still working on that), my middle son likes to but rarely has time, and our youngest, who is still living at home, will shoot with me anytime I want to take him over (unless the girlfriend wants him to come over; she trumps). :neener: He wants me to give him my .44 mag for his 21st birthday.

That's my boy! :D:D:D

Both of mine are happy to go shooting with me. Boy is 9 and girl is 7.

The boy fired his first handgun when he was 7 or 8. He likes to tell people all about it to see their reaction. He will happily tell them the first handgun he ever fired was a Ruger .44 Magnum. That's true, it was one of the new 50th FT's. And it is a .44 Magnum. Of course when he was shooting it, it was loaded with Blazer .44 Special Gold Dots but that messes up the story!

I took him down to the lower pond a few days ago with my SA M6 Scout. I figure that's the single shot .22/.410 that he will end up getting to hunt with on our property alone. I wanted to start working with him. I fired a few shots and then he got going. Even though it is a single shot, he went through my whole 50 round box of .22's and was looking for more. I told him he was going to have to start paying for his own bullets if he shoots them all that fast!

I remember when I took my youngest to the range in Ft.Knox.
He was 5 years old and I was shooting a Taurus 66 in .357, I had some .38 target loads with me and he wanted to shoot.
I loaded it with the .38's and he was NOT happy.
I reloaded it with some of my hotter .357 loads (2 with a space in between)
After he fired , he looked over his shoulder with the BIGGEST grin on his face.
heck, he fired almost 50 rounds .

My Son

Isn't a kid anymore. But, he likes to shoot. He is 23 and purchased a HK 45 LEM and a Bushmaster AR .223. We go to the range whenever we get together. Great father and son activity and something we can share on a common ground.

Otherwise I am lost, he is a programming guru. Programs in 14 languages.

Both of my daughters like to shoot and usually do once or twice a week. The 7 year old likes our vintage Red Rider and the 'kick' of our Sheridan pellet rifle while my 15 year old is partial to my always-carry S&W 642.

My 8yr old daughter enjoys going shooting with dad.

We've modified a 10/22 to fit her better, now we just have to get out and shoot it.

Started both sons shooting at the age of 7 with Red Ryder BB Guns. Both becape very proficient with them. At the age of 9 they graduated to the 22LR, both rifle and revolver. By the age of 11, they were shooting centerfire handguns and rifles. At the age of 18, the oldest was in charge of rifle & shotgunning at the Boy Scout Summer Camp. The youngest was in charge of the Archery range. The oldest will start down the road on his Texas Concealed Handgun License fall and the youngest has qualified as a marksman in his college ROTC program and has done the same with the Beretta handgun. Both sons got their first handguns from Santa Dad a year ago. If I could reload fast enough, they would both burn up every round old dad reloads. :p

yeah my boys love it,but i started them young and to me the right way.first i started them with a BB gun to learn gun saftey and such, then a 22lr to learn trigger pull, shot placement importance, breath control and how to clean and care for a gun properly.then we moved up to a 20 gauge then a 12 and by that time they were about 12 so i let them pick their own rifle and by then the basics were allready there plus the each had a nice collection of good usefull guns that they still have to this day.and they can shoot like nobodies buisness and since they are only 17 now i am proud.only thing i can't get them to follow in is my footsteps of being a wilderness dweller, lol.i spend on average about 8 months out of the year in my cabing in the mountains they gripe the entire time because of no tv or computers but they get over it but at least i know they know how to shoot if the need ever arises and they can put food on the table if need be.

Both of my sons like to shoot. My youngest can't, nor would, go on his own. My oldest is out of the house now and shoots some. He wants my Win 94 in .44 Mag for hunting.

My son is now 13

Like, most of you I started him out with a BB gun, then a 22LR (single shot) and then started letting him shoot some of the bigger ones. He's turned into a heck of a good shot (makes a daddy proud!). I recently bought a Mosin M44, which is probably the hardest kicker I have. Thought the recoil and noise would spook him. Boy was I wrong, he fired his first shot and just got the biggest grin on his face. I had a hard time getting it away from him so I could shoot some.

My daughter on the other hand doesn't have much interest. I keep asking if she would like to, but no dice. I won't push her, but I sure hope she'll come around.

my 8 + 10yr old boys love .22's // the 8 yr old hasn't enough arm length for even a cricket size rifle, but he LOVES blasting a re-active target with the trusty ruger MKIII

Both of my kids were taught to shoot rifle and pistol when they were 9-10 years old. Started them out with a Chipmunk rifle and a Bearcat revolver.

Develop skills and knowlege of firearms served my son very well in Army basic training and when he deployed to Iraq with the 101st ABD.

my son is 4 and loves to go to the range with dad he shoots a cricket and a ruger mark 3 22 pistol hes notreally accurate but likes to hear the guns go boom he is pretty accurate with a victory model smith in 38 s and w he really likes

My "kids" are 31 and 29. Most times, if I call and say "let's go to the range", they will be there before I am. They've been shooting since they were six (my daughter) and four (my son).

P.S. Don't tell my daughter that a .45 kicks too much! She's five feet tall, and wears a size 5 1/2 ring, but shoots her Ruger P-90 like a champ!

My son, 15, just went to Camp Perry for the pistol championships.
He's ready to go again already.

My older son shot bowling pins with me for several years. He sort of got out of shooting for a while after the big match we went to ended. Now, he's thinking about buying a shotgun to shoot clay targets with.

did you say kids we would like to shoot?? uh..no..ok

Being a teacher for 33 years and father of three sons, two in college, well..you understand.
I taught all three of my boys to shoot and two are mildly interested but only if I supply the ammo and clean the weapons and set up the time for us to go out to shoot. Now if the girlfriends call, "welp, gotta go, bye Dad!!"
My third son, aged 15, on the other hand loves to shoot. He has an old Winchester .22 single shot made in the 1930s that he can hit a nickel at 25 yards. I roll a softball in front of him at about 15 yards and he can hit it every time. He is amazing, at least to me. He shoots my HK P2000 very accurately and is asking weekly to shoot my Mak90. We will when it gets cooler. He also has a Ruger 10/22 which he enjoys very much, especially with the scope mounted. He doesn't mind cleaning them either. (No girls involved yet, thank goodness)

No offense everybody but if your kids are preempting time shooting and time with their parents because of a girl or boy friend then you need to slap them around a little bit and get their heads straight!

YES - My 15 year old daughter

My 15 year old daughter has taken a big intrest in fire arms. She owns a Remington 7400 in 30.06, Remington 597 in 22, and a H&R 20 guage shotgun. She is laying claim to my Walther P22 as well.

YES - She is a pretty good shot.

Two kids - oldest isn't crazy about shooting though he is pro-2A, the other loves shooting.

When I was a kid, the only toys I wanted were toy guns ... my favorite game was cops n robbers (no kid these days has ever heard of that).
