I like to have four magazines for a pistol I will carry and shoot a lot. I don't buy or order the extra mags until I've tested the gun with the mag(s) it comes with and am satisfied. At this point I will usually buy/order carry gear.

[QUOTEYes, I always order one or two spare magazines with every pistol[/QUOTE]

And often more than just 2..the last I ordered 7 more mags for the Slimhawg and the wife ordered 8 for her Kimber Ultra carry 2...cant have enough mags and bullets to go with.

Yea Ive got a few extras for a couple of my pistols.
More mags make it easier when target shooting, training class, or comps.
XD9 came with 2, then I bought one of the accessory packs that has 3 mags in and mag carrier. The accessory pack was $50 I think, which is an awesome deal.
CZ SP-01 came with 2 19rd mags, I ordered 3 more 19s and one 16rounder just for the heck of it. They were expensive. The CZ is just a range gun, too heavy to carry, but I do plan on using it in a class this weekend if its not raining Sunday.
Kahr PM9 came with a 6rd and 7rd mag. I havent picked up any more for it. Kahrs wants $40each, I dont shoot it a lot and typically dont carry a reload.

Q: Why so many mags??
A: You gotta be ready when the "zombies" are wobbling up driveway. May not be time to reload mags. LOL

I shoot my P229 weekly, around 100 rds or so. I have done so for a year or two. I was realizing the other day, that I have done so on TWO MAGS. It's only for carry, not HD, but I should have more mags. I think I'll jump to 4 or so, since I typically keep 1k+ rounds on hand. My main goal is to be proficient with my carry weapon, but there is no harm in preparedness.

I have at least 5 magazines of the highest capacity for each pistol, not including the 1911's. I have over 30 serviceable 1911 magazines, from CMC, Checkmate, and Wilson. I have about a dozen others that are range-duty only 1911 magazines, meaning not reliable enough to carry. Of course, I have 7 1911's with more to come, I'm sure.

Good thing I did, the ACT mags that came with the
SW1911 consistently will not feed the
last round in a mag. - weak spring and idiotic follower. imo.
I'll second that one! My S&W Gunsite loves the Checkmates. The factory mags are in the "range mags" bag.

when i carried a p-32 i got one spare with my 92fs I get as many as i can mostly so I can pre load them when I go to the range and not waste time loading magazines. at $18.00 an hour range fee I want to shoot as much as I can.

Be safe

Extra Mags

I need 4 mags for any semi-auto I have, so I can qualify as a Class G Security Guard in Florida.

It's my gig, when I am not doing my best thing - being a project manager....

I have at least ten (10) magazines per individual pistol, and sometimes more. I buy factory mags or MecGars.

Another reason for having 10 magazines, as I do for my XD, is the fact that I can shoot 120 rounds at the range without reloading.:D I hate having to stop shooting to reload. The point about a future AWB is also a very good point.

I order or buy spare Magazines with all my new purchases.

Recently I have gone back to my earlier purchases to get more Mag’s some of the firearms are out of production which makes them a tad expensive.

I buy three extras when buy a new gun. In addition to the one or two it comes with. From the shop, OEM, or Mec-Gar

+1 on what RCmodel said 'way back in post #4 of the thread...

other stuff:

They vary wildly from $20 to $55 bucks.
I wish that were the case. CDNN's catalog had factory new P7M13 mags at the low, low price of $99.99 not too long ago. For REAL giggles, go over to GunBroker.com and search for Coonan magazines...:cuss:

I refuse to order separate magazines from the manufacturer. All magazines should be <$20.
Tell me about it. And yet I keep falling for handguns where it's $$$ to get a few spare mags.:banghead:

While I agree in principle, magazines are the weak link to many many different firearms, and aren't to be taken lightly. There are lots of 1911 mags that are under ten bucks. And every one of em is junk, or if they work they won't for long. Pro Mag makes quite a few low-buck magazines, but I sure wouldn't trust my gun with them. Magazines are one place that, as much as I don't like to admit it, you do get what you pay for.

I keep 4 mags. Two loaded and the other two resting - change them out the 1st of the month. That way the springs are not fully compressed all the time. Just a personal thing!!!
You do realize that this actually wears them afster than just leaving them all loaded, right?

I buy a minimum of 10 mags with every new weapon.

Like most, I try to stay away from weapons that use mags and parts that are rare and expensive, but I have a few that have migrated into my safe over the years that I consider worthy of keeping. For those I just pick them up piece meal when I find them.

In general, I buy mags on sale and stock pile them for a number of popular weapon systems just as a good investment.
Which of course often times that leads me to justify buying the weapon to go with.

I dont "order" them, per se. However, I do buy them locally whenever I happen to see some for a good price.

I've accumulated 8 mags for my Ruger P95, and 14 mags for the Springfield 1911.

I always buy 2 extra mags with every gun...or whatever it takes to have a minimum of 4. If it is a gun that completes a "set", like Beretta Cx4 and Px4, I will order more just because they make a great SHTF combo.

I do indeed. You never get enough, and too often, you're lucky to get one :banghead:

Besides, it means that I can spend more time at the range actually shooting rather than standing there reloading while everyone else is plinking away :D

why would someone need 10 mags?
posterzombieposterxn2.jpg

you can never have enough mags, my xd service model which is my carry gun i have 10 12rd factory mags.

for my 1911 which i have been shooting alot lately, i have a total of 16 mags.

i shoot and i shoot alot and i am hard on my equipment so i like to have plenty to last me.

Also, what do you consider a fair price to pay for an extra magazine. They vary wildly from $20 to $55 bucks

depends what mags you are getting and what kinda gun they are for, if they are common good mags can be had at a good price. like the xd mags for example i can get for less than $20, and the 1911 mags, i use cmc mags and they are awesome and they can be had for about $20 as well.

now the mags for my kahr k-40 on the other hand is a whols other story and they are quite expensive.

If a gun is worth owning - 3 mags
If is a primary defensive weapon - 5 mags minimum!
For rifles it's at least 7 mags.

That's for each gun, not each platform. Is anyone actually not buying all the magazines they can right now?
