IMR 4831
H335

Really would like to run up on some 231 and Clays. Toying with adding 4895 and Varget

Barely gettin by:

A little more than a pinch of the following:

HP38/231
WST
Longshot
Bullseye

H4895
IMR 4895
AA 2495
IMR3031
IMR 4891
H335
Benchmark

Slim pickins with all of them. A pound apiece or less.... Pays to be a bit flexible in the load data department this day and age and use what you can find.

I used to ry to keep the number of powders to a minimum.

But that just does not seem to work any more.

I don't think I have enough fingers and toes to count them up these days.

Edit:
I did a count. 19 different powders so I guess I have enough fingers and toes.

I think at the moment I have 10 rifle powders and a dozen handgun powders. (I'm not too obsessed)
I just went to the basement and looked at what i have on hand and a list of the powders I have off site to comply with the local regulations, this is what I have available to load.

Rifle Powders:
IMR-3031
IMR-4064
IMR-4895
IMR-4350
H-4895
H-4350
H-4198
H335
Varget
Leverevolution
AA5744

Handgun Powders:
W296 / H110
W231 / HP-38
Power Pistol
Longshot
Lil'Gun
Universal
2400
AA#5
HS-6
Clays
Trail Boss
Zip

I know that's a lot of handgun powders and I mostly use only W231, HS-6 and W296 but I like to try different stuff.

As for rifle powders, I mostly use a different powder for every cartridge I load and some I use 2 or 3 powders for the same cartridge. I could if I had to get along with AA5744, H4895 and H4350 for what I load.

Rifle
H335
XBR 8208
3031
1680

Pistol
Trail Boss
Bullseye
HS-6

Looking for
W296
Universal
W231

Powder selection

Here is my spreadsheet with powders!

I have about a dozen, but I only have a significant amount of 3: IMR4064, Varget, and Clays. I'm very glad I stocked up on clays. Hopefully it'll start flowing again about the end of this year.

I'm just getting into reloading for 223/5.56 so I might be picking up some H335 or W748 since it's starting to be readily available around here.

Never would've thought reading which powders everyone has would be so interesting!

Hate to be so nosy but I'd like to see what RC has, I've got a feeling it's just 2 or 3 favorites..

Just two at the moment.

Glad I'm not the only one. I have Unique and IMR 4895.

Only used the Unique, and only for two calibers. 'Course those two feed seven different guns, so I don't feel too bad. Especially since I haven't done much shooting in the last year.

That's smokeless, I do have slightly less than a pound of Goex as well.

I usually have a dozen or so different smokeless powders on hand.
Haven't had to buy any for a year or so, so I don't even know which is in short supply.
I do know I went to a big auction a while back and what guys were bidding on powder blew my mind so I didn't even do any bidding.

While I've got more than a dozen different powders at this time, I am looking to weed out a lot of the single purpose ones in my inventory, and just stick with the multi-purpose ones in the future. Some examples of multi-purpose powders are:

700X and Solo 1000 - 12 gauge and handgun loads.
HS-6 and AA#5 - handgun and buckshot loads.
Unique - a whole lot of applications.
2400 and IMR4227 - hot handgun and .30 Carbine loads.
IMR4895 - standard .30 caliber rifle loads.
RL22 - high performance rifle loads.

I have my go-to powders, then seem to end up with drip and drabs of stuff I was tinkering with. Some I know has been there a while, when I see a price tag of "$11.45" from a shop long out of business on a bottle.

Stuff I use a lot:
HP-38
H-110
WSF
TiteGroup
TiteWad
Unique
H-335
CFE-223
R-19

Then about 15 others. I reload over 40 different cartridges from .22 Hornet to 9.3x62, so that doesn't help on reducing inventory.

Simple answer for me. "More than I need".

I used to chase the "flavor of the month", looking for that perfect pistol powder that gave me all kinds of speed and left the pistol cleaner after shooting than when I started.

Rifle powders, the same. Every time someone posted a fantastic load I ran out and bought a pound of that powder.

I now have ONE pistol powder, Power Pistol.

For my .223's, both AR and Bolt action, I now use CFE223

For my 30-06 it's H-4350

For my 308 loads it's CFE223, IMR-4064, or IMR-8208 XBR depending on bullet weight and time of the year.

I still have a supply of Varget but I'm saving my unopened 8# jug for "trading stock" if a good deal shows up locally and the party wants to trade.

Even with primers, I'm consolidating. No more CCI or Fed's, just Tula. If the Tula primers can give me .158 MOA accuracy at 300 yards, why pay more for the BR2's or Fed GMM 210's?

Yep, I'm with you there. I've been shooting the Russian primers for the past 10 years, back when they were in the original Russian packaging and imported by a guy in Arizona.

I have a lot of different ones right now because the shortage requires me to sometimes buy powder that will do the job, even if it isn't my favorite. I probably have 12-15 different powders on the shelf.

However, if all things were readily available I could do everything I need with less than half that.
Give me Unique and 231 for handguns.
IMR4350 and H380 for rifle.
Red Dot for shotgun (I use Unique for shotty as well).

So I could get by just fine with 5 powders. I could really get by with less than that if I had to. The H380 and 231 aren't absolutely necessary, I just like them for certain loads.

19 types, including 3 types of Pyrodex. the only ones with more that 1 lb are Unique and 700X (2 trap/skeet shooters). Discounting the Unique and 700X, averages > 1 lb a type.

H380
H4350

AutoComp
H110

Red Dot

CFE223 and Longshot are the only powders I have in 8lb kegs (about 5lbs left of each), I have 2lbs of Varget, and everything else is either an unopened 1lb or a partial 1lb.

How many powders do I have in my inventory?

Hmmm.

Working from memory lets see.

Pistol Powder:
Unique
Bullseye
W231
2400
H110
IMR4227

Rifle Powder:
IMR4350
IMR4064
IMR3031
IMR4895
H4895
H322
W748

I think that's it. As I am not sure I will have to take inventory when I get home from work! ;)

After 30+ years of reloading I am surprised its not more!

I have 31 powders. Those for which I have more than a one pound collection and am committed to using are as follows:

Unique
Titegroup
A2400
IMR4227
SR4756 (idled as too dirty)
Trailboss
HS-6
W231/HP38
Bullseye
Power Pistol
Enforcer
PowerPro 300-MP
H335

The list of one pounder samples of mostly handgun powders would bring tears to your eyes. It is a bit of a collection over time, but I can try lots of loads, if not happy with or am bored with my current loads. Buying a pound of powder I don't already have is a routine for me at gun shows. It is a lot tougher now, of course.

Just got started last year. The powder shortage has caused me to do a good deal of work ups using different powders. I'm always looking for a pound of new pistol powder for that reason. Good to have a load for any given powder with the current climate.

So far:
Blue Dot
Red Dot
AutoComp
Unique

IMR4064
IMR4895
Varget
H335
Win 748
