How many powders in your inventory???

In reading the "lists" of powders it reminds me of a cigar smoker I once knew. He had this one brand of cigar he absolutely loved. Rather than just smoking that one brand he kept trying all kinds of different ones.

He sure smoked a bunch of crappy cigars when all along he could have just been enjoying the one he found early.

I think shooters are a lot like this guy. Always trying "something different" and in the end having all kinds of powder in partially used containers under the bench.
Oh, for sure. Surprised to find something that works very well in one application; hoping to find something that works equally well in another application...or works even better in the same application. Sometimes (often) I did find what I was looking for.

Now I'm left with all kinds of powders in partially used containers under the bench. Seems like a nice problem to have at this juncture. At some point I may not be able to load with my 'favorites'...but at least I'll be able to load.

7625 and 4756 are two of my favorite powders. Are they going to have something to fill the gap? -Maybe they'll just re introduce them with new, cooler names like, "Thunder" or "BlackRain"?

Still have about 10 pounds of Unique, 4 pounds of 4064, 4 pounds of H335, 4 pounds of Varget left....along with various others. Good for a while yet..

Would have only one, Unique, if it was readily available whenever I needed some but it has become as scarce as other powders in our area. I use Unique for 4 handgun calibers and 1 shotgun, that I use for Trap, so I go through powder quite rapidly. I pick up whatever I can find that will give me the performance I am looking for in each caliber. I currently have some 2400, ACC #5, H110 and BlueDot that will have to substitute until I can stock up on more Unique.

I have 22 powders, which is way too many!

extras

Some I got from when a friend of mine got out of reloading, some were from when a local store got rid of their reload supplies - cheap!
+1....I have pounds of 4895 and 4831 that I have never used.....given to me as above.
Certain other propellants are dedicated to a single use. Li'L Gun is for 500 S&W only. True Blue is for 5.7X28 only. RL15 is for .223 and so on.
My most often used powders are much fewer than what is on the shelf..
Promo for Trap and field loads
Bullseye for .45 and 9mm and .38 Spl
2400 for .357 Mag and .44 Mag, .30 Carbine and .410 shotshells.
RL15 for ,223
4350 for .30-06 (and larger cartridges)
FFg for .45-70
Unique and 4759 for reduced loads.

....One.... I'm mostly a pistol shooter and I like to keep things simple. It used to be Bullseye, and then Unique until I discovered SR-7625. That suited me for years. When I could no longer find SR-7625 I switched to Power Pistol. When I could no longer find that powder I switched to SR-4756. That's where I'm at now. It suits my needs for 9mm, .38 S&W, and .45 Auto Rim/Welbey, for now.... If supplies continue to remain "tight" I'll probably buy any of my preferred powders if I see them.:uhoh:

I am way down on shooting compared to other years ( spine ain't too good)
2 of the kids are working in other states---grandkids are out of college & busy at new jobs.
At this rate I would say that I have enuf powder & bullets ( incl. 22's)_ to carry me for 5 years doing some reloading every day
Have fun

Without digging into the pile too deep I have 43 different types of propellant as well as 12 of black powder. Lots of them (more than 1/3) are in 8 LB kegs. Guess I have enough to get me through a couple years longer without serious pain.;)

I am new

I have just couple. I load 9mm and 45acp in Pistol and for Rifle I do 223 and 308.

10lb - Titegroup
12lb - AA#2
10lb - CFE Pistol
1lb - W231

14lb - Varget
10lb - CFE 223
14lb - AA2230
5lb - IMR4064

76lbs for someone new is a big stash. I've been at it a few years and I probably only have about half of that. No hate your way, but if there's a lot of new guys stocking up like that its no wonder powder is somewhat scarce.

I only load 9mm for idpa

Alliant Unique #8 it meters okay, hard to double charge in 9mm and very forgiving if measurement is off.

KansasSasqatch so you saying I should buy my powder two lb at a time and pay $30 hazmat fee plus shipping to make it $45-$50 a pound?

There is no powder locally here and only way to get anything is watch it online for a chance to score 10lb at a time.

I think he was just saying he can see why the prices are high/scarce. especially if all the new guys have 80 lbs, since that is what he said...and he's probably right. That's a lot of powder. That's your business though, Im not hating either, just thinking out loud.

I probably have more than I technically "need" too...(nowhere near that much though, and I dont pretend to know how much you shoot)

powder goes quick especially in rifle powder and if I will have more then I need I can always hook up my shooting buddies ;)

I have been surprised to, at how quick the measure can slurp down rifle powder.

Nope, that's not what I'm saying at all. It's a wise move to purchase as much as you can while it's fairly cheap. Like I said, no hate directed towards you. And 10lbs at a time.... the last online powder purchase I made was 32lbs, and that's nothing compared to what some people buy. I did end up selling 2 8lb kegs of CFE223 to local guys that were having trouble finding powder. And I don't think I gouged them either, I sold it to them for what it would have cost them to order a single keg, and made about $10 from each, minus the $5 gas expense to meet up with them. Order what you know you'll be able to use. I was just saying that if there's a lot of new guys like you then it's pretty obvious why there's not store shelves full of powder everywhere, plus there's the guys that saw it coming and ordered enough to get them through it. Can't be mad at someone for planning ahead.

I believe that is what it's all about KS. Ive said this before on here, but I didnt know what a reloading press was a yr and a half or so ago..and now Ive got 15-20 lbs or whatever...And I have a feeling there's quite a few me's out there.
