How many still have

This is all very interesting....What I bought back as far as 50 years ago still meets the need for the reason it was bought. That was the reason for the original question. I don't have a lot of guns, but I have to stop taking them all out at one time. I like all my guns, and they do get shot. Nothing languishes in the safe. I have to scale back what I take to the range...my usual cart, scope, targets and all accouterments would be better if I had a Bobcat front-end loader. Now it's one day; pistols...one day; rifles...one day balck powder. Too much trouble to combine two of these. Only 3 guns had a specific purpose, when they were bought, the rest were proficiency/fun target practice, paper punching.

I have not the money or desire to do so

I don't have the money, nor space to keep them all. I've owned lots of guns in my lifetime. Never kept up with it but somewhere north of 200, maybe 300. Never more than 30 or so at any given time. Probably 80% of them were bought used and if I didn't like it, or just decided to sell/trade it for something else I'd not lose much if any money and I sold most for more than I paid. It is possible to do that by purchasing new guns, but you have to keep them for at least 10 years. I ran across a guy in a pawnshop several years ago trying to sell a Remington 700 for $200 for rent money. Pawn shop didn't have enough cash on hand so I bought it from him. Sold it 18 hours later at a gunshow for $375.

Most I kept for several years and used them for trade bait to upgrade to better guns at a minimal cost to me. When I go to a gunshow, or cruise pawn shops I'm rarely looking for anything specific. But the best deal. I've bought guns simply because I've never owned that particular one and knew that if I didn't like it I could at least get my money back if not make a small profit. I now have 1st hand knowledge about what works best for me. Some like HK and CZ pistols I found that I didn't like. And while I just knew I'd hate a Glock, found they are my favorite pistols.

When I married my wife over 35 years ago I promised to keep her. I've kept that promise. But when I buy a gun I make no such promise. If something better comes along I have no issue with trading up. Right now I own fewer than ever. Within the last 10-12 years I've really cut back, but the ones I do own are some pretty decent guns with semi-custom stocks with good glass on them. I could have never afforded to purchase them had it not been for selling the unused guns I had accumulated.

I spent the second half of my college years accumulating guns. Early working years saw my interests shift to jeep and motorcycles, so most of my collection was sold off one or two at a time. My preferences have since shifted back to guns and i have more than i did before. So many that im starting to contemplate selling off some of the lesser used guns.

My first shotgun was an Ithaca 66 .410 my Dad bought me when I was 10. Back in my college years I gave that gun to a friend of mine to give to his son as his first shotgun. He didn’t have a lot of money and had three young kids, I didn’t use it much (if at all) anymore and I figured Kevins boy would get more out of it than I would.

My first center fire rifle was a Savage 99 F in .308 that my Dad gave me when I turned 16. I had to sell that back in my college years to pay my rent for a couple of months when I was between jobs.

My first handgun was an Iver Johnson TP-22 I bought from Bucksport Sporting Goods in Eureka, Ca. It was stolen from me about a year after I bought it, but I got it back a couple of years later.

Over the years I’ve bought a ton of them, sold some of them and even given a few away. But now I’m keeping all that I buy to give to my kids or grandkids when I’m gone.

Stay safe!

I still have the 5 handguns I've owned over the course of 44 years. I like them , so why get rid of them. 2 revolvers and 3 semi-auto's.
