I've been wanting a Ruger Old Army with adjustable sights. I think I'd like stainless over blued steel. What is a reasonable price for a used one as they haven't made them in a long time.

I figure when I retire, I can spend a lot of time at the pistol range for little money shooting one of these. Shoot be a hoot on the plate rack.

On the auction sites many of them have a starting price of $500.00 to $600 hundred dollars plus for the stainless steel Rugers.

Hoffman Estates, IL 60192 has a nice blued one i was looking at it today I think
the asking price was just under $700.

Agreed. $500 for a 7.5" SS adjustable in good used condition, probably at least $200 more for the fixed sight model. Blued models a bit less.

Prices on used ROA's are going up....SS may be your first choice...but do NOT pass up a blue one.....if the price is reasonable....to you...

I would say about $600.00 to $700.00 (stainless) in very good to mint condition. Blued models $500.00 to $600.00 If you get lower prices you are getting a bargain. These are standard 7 1/2 barrel adjustable sight models.

Fixed sight models and 5 1/2 inch barreled models both made for cowboy shooting events even more but I am not sure of the price range.

Then they have those with the brass dragoon grip frames which are also uncommon and lets not forget the bicentenial editions.

Any brand new unfired in box models may be considered collectors.

Bought a as NIB one this year with box, papers, wrench etc. '74 model. Perfect condition. $350. $700 for a blue fixed sight model is highway robbery.

What you can occasionally find them for vs market price are wholly different. A quick review of gunbroker provides provides a basis, then start poking around!

Sadly my flipping of pythons is now over in my local area. It seems the overvaluing has now caught on. Lgs yesterday had one for 5k, o well, was fun when lasted!

Around here the ROA has become a rare find.
The fixed sight stainless guns are quite expensive. The 7.5in is usually around $650. The 5.5in version another $200-300.
Standard adj. sight stainless goes about $500-600.
Blue adj sight about $50-100 less.
The only ones I see anymore for sale are older blued guns that are chewed up pretty badly and they're still asking about $500 for them.
I do not believe I have ever seen a blued fix sight for sale anywhere except on-line.

I'm not a BP shooter, but one of the few guns I regret NOT buying over the years is a 7.5" adjustable sighted stainless steel Old Army. I've no interest at all in the fixed sight versions, but if I ever have the extra jingle in my pocket & find a nice SS 7.5" adj sight Old Army I'll not make that mistake again.

Prices are skyrocketing. GOOD 7.5 blue fixed sights>$700 stainless>$900
5.5 " barrels (name your price) stainless fixed sights--WOW(I've seen tuned 5.5 stainless, fixed sights sold for $2200/pair)
Adjustable sights subtract $200
I bought a 7.5" stainless fixed sights in excellent condition off of gunbroker for $400. Traded it with a trade value of $900

Correct me if I am wrong, aren't the 5.5 stainless or blued adjustables the more rare of the 5.5's?

I only say that as I have never seen one in person. What say you?

I've only seen one ever in my life and it was on a picture on here. That is an original, I mean.

The good thing about Ruger Old Army's is that you dont have to buy them locally. No FFL involved . Sure, the local gun shop has them for $700 but some guy in pigsknuckle has one for $400. .
