Hi guys... i have been wanting to buy a marlin xl7 but decided i will just compromise and get a 308 for now (marlin xs7). but at the same time i want a bolt action carbine type rifle that is still good for deer. i want to have a rifle i can use and abuse and not really worry about scratches... so i was thinking of saving up for the xs7 in 308 and having the gunsmith work on it for me ( im 14 so not a lot of money is coming my way :(). so i was wondering how much this would cost.

Gunsmith work:
1) Barrel cut to 18.5”
2) XS rear sight
3) Short ramp with serrated modified ramp front sight
4) 13” lop ( length of pull )
5) Trigger set to 3.5 pounds
6) Light rail mounted on front of stock ( far up on the stock right where the stock drops off )

im not looking for an exact price but i was looking for an estimate/ general area of cost. thanks guys!:)

Save your money

Save your money and buy a Optics Readys Bushmaster in 308. Or, You can start with buying a mosin nagant M44 or 38 and take your time building it and learning a little smithing along the way. Remember!!! your 14 years old so you will need your parents consent and a friendly gunsmith for advice for safety of your build.

Have fun and be safe.

thanks guys... i am planning on becoming a gunsmith when I'm older as in when i can go to gunsmithing school (colorado or pennslvania) so im probably going to buy an old mil-surplus to modify but i guess i should just save up for a tikka t3.....("270 or 308, that is the question?") for hunting in the VT woods.

You missed the point

I don't think that young man would drop all that coin at once for his project. I, myself, wouldn't want to cut my teeth on a new rifle just in case that project lost it's interest ( girls, cars, homework, he's 14) or made a mistake that made the rifle inoperable. I started my stepson on an M44, he started High School last year, it's still down stairs with a half finished stock and the scout mount still in the box. I'm sure once he finds out that girls & cars cost a lot more $$$, he'll take it up again.
Not said with sarcasm.

Stay safe.
