How Old is your Oldest Revolver?

Driftwood,

The history your collection brings is quite amazing. Thank you for sharing.
I often learn about a new (to me) old revolver design when you post pictures.
Thanks for that.

My oldest for me is a humble Pre Model 10.

I am told that the serial number puts it between 1936 and 1939.
It is a favorite of mine to shoot.

I have almost the same pre M-10 revolver, but with a bit more holster wear.

My Great Uncle Don carried it as a Las Vegas Policeman 1944-1964.

All of mine are fairly new. I've owned older ones, but now the best I can do is a couple from 1954.

1954, Smith and Wesson Masterpiece 38. It's wearing some aftermarket stocks right now, but they're better than the rubber ones it came with.

1953, Smith and Wesson 22 Combat Masterpiece. I found the diamond target grips at my LGS and hopped on them with this gun in mind. I still have the Magna's that number to the gun safely stored away.

My oldest is a M1917 S&W .45ACP marked US Army on the grip. Runner up is a pre-model 10 S&W .38spl snub nose with the square grip, that was made in 1929 and had been sent back to S&W for a rebuild and finishing at some point. It looks pristine condition wise and I found it at a pawn shop for $250OTD four or five years ago.

S&W I frame in 32SWL from 1926 and a Colt DS (or maybe a Police Positive) from 1928/29

25 years ago I had a collection of 1st Gen Colt SAAs. Sadly they are all gone now. The oldest revolver I currently have is this one:

This is a 1938 Heavy Duty wearing replacement sheep horn stocks.

Thanks NIGHTLORD. It’s not like I did anything to deserve the “Wow”. Just simply didn’t discard family history. And never will. Family history is very important to my family. We don’t throw history away. It kind of makes us hoarders in a sense. If it’s passed from a family member, it’s sacred. And it doesn’t get sold or thrown away. No matter what is offered.

When you consider the tumults of the past 150 years, its still remarkable. Things get lost, houses burn down, tornadoes, floods, The Depression, etc.....

Very cool!

My parents are definitely hoarders and we don't have many close relatives, so when the time comes to disperse of their accumulations, many things will simply have to be sold or gifted out of the family. I will have the unfortunate task of picking a handful of meaningful (and durable) items to try to preserve and pass on.

Fortunately, in addition to rowboats and snowblowers, my Dad hoards guns, and I have a pretty good idea of which ones he actually shoots and has owned the longest. These are the ones I will try to keep in the family.
