How old were you when you first started going into gunstores by yourself?

We did not have any "gunstore" till mid to late 50's. However, every general store, hardware store, farm supply, including my Dad's garage sold guns and ammo. Some sold blasting powder and dynamite. I kinda grew up with guns.

Back in the 60's small town Oregon it was Western Auto, They had everything. A kid could even buy .22 shells a few at a time, whatever you could afford. They probably only cost .50 a box but that was a lot of cash back then. The trip to town was always a big event even if it was only three miles.

I was 21 the first time I walked into a gun store alone and have rarely done it since. I always bring at least one friend, preferably male, when I go. Big box stores are generally okay for me to go to alone, but being a young woman in a small, local store...not to peg everyone as a stereotype, but more often than not it's really uncomfortable.

We didn't have any gunstores in my town when I was growing up. But Magic Mart, Wal-Mart, Otasco, Western Auto, and a few other places sold guns, and I loitered around the display cases quite a bit from the age of 12 on up...

When I was old enough to drive. If you count my local True Value hardware store I was 11 or 12. Friend of the family. He let me buy 22 ammo and I frequently carried a small 1 gallon gas can to get gas as well to now the yard. This was in the early 90's. it really wasn't a big deal in semi rural GA. Never really though twice about it actually.
